Vinh Long: Announcement of school renaming, recognizing the contributions of Hero Ta Minh Kham.

On December 13th, the People's Committee of Mo Cay commune (Vinh Long province) held a ceremony to announce the decision to rename Mo Cay Junior High School to Ta Minh Kham Junior High School and to unveil a statue of People's Armed Forces Hero Colonel Ta Minh Kham.

Attending the event were former members of the Politburo: Nguyen Tan Dung, former Prime Minister; Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, former Chairwoman of the National Assembly; General Le Hong Anh, former Standing Member of the Central Party Secretariat. Also present were members of the Central Committee of the Party: Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, Deputy Minister of National Defense ; and Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, Deputy Minister of National Defense.

Also attending were comrades Ho Thi Hoang Yen, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee; Tran Tri Quang, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee; Nguyen Minh Dung, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Vinh Long Provincial People's Council; former leaders of the Central Government, ministries, departments, and localities; representatives of the family of People's Armed Forces Hero Colonel Ta Minh Kham; and students and teachers of Mo Cay Secondary School.

At the ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Ba ​​Tien, Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of the Defense Command of Zone 2 Son Dong (Vinh Long province), delivered a speech recalling the biography of Colonel Ta Minh Kham.

Comrade Ta Minh Kham was born in 1924 into a patriotic peasant family in An Thanh commune, Mo Cay district, Ben Tre province (now Mo Cay commune, Vinh Long province). In 1940, he joined revolutionary activities in the locality.

In 1954, he relocated to North Vietnam and was sent for training at schools both domestically and internationally. From December 1961 to May 1965, he worked in the 2nd Regiment, the first regimental-level main force unit in the Southeastern region, holding the positions of Deputy Regimental Commander and Regimental Commander. From April 1966 to June 1967, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief of Staff, Deputy Division Commander, and Division Commander of the 9th Division, the first divisional-level main force unit in the Southeastern region. In April 1974, he was appointed Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Southern Liberation Army Command. During this time, he made exceptionally outstanding contributions in advising and planning combat operations for the entire Southern battlefield, leading the resistance war against the US to complete victory with the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign.

After the liberation of South Vietnam, he was assigned the task of Chief of Staff of the forward command of Military Region 7, assisting our neighboring country on the Cambodian battlefield. He directly participated with the main units of Military Region 7 in the offensive to liberate Phnom Penh and eliminate the Pol Pot regime in that country.

Throughout his life, Comrade Ta Minh Kham was a man of unwavering loyalty and indomitable spirit, ready to dedicate and sacrifice himself for the country, constantly striving to learn and train to excellently fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, the State, and the Army.

For his exceptionally outstanding achievements throughout the revolutionary periods, in December 2014, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and the State; the Second-Class Independence Order; the First, Second, and Third-Class Military Merit Orders, along with many other orders, medals, and prestigious awards.

At the ceremony, the People's Committee of Mo Cay commune announced the decision to rename Mo Cay Junior High School to Ta Minh Kham Junior High School and erected a statue of the Hero of the People's Armed Forces, Colonel Ta Minh Kham.

On this occasion, the family of the late Colonel Ta Minh Kham awarded 20 scholarships to 20 underprivileged but academically优秀 students; Donacoop Corporation provided funding for the complete renovation of Ta Minh Kham Junior High School, supplemented equipment for the digital library, and sponsored scholarships for outstanding students to pursue higher education at university.
