On December 13th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that after 11 months of 2025, Vietnam had welcomed approximately 19 million international visitors, a 20.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024. With stable growth in the fourth quarter and the continued positive recovery of international tourism demand, reaching the 20 million international visitor mark by mid-December 2025 is considered feasible and has a solid foundation. This marks the first time in 65 years of its formation and development that Vietnam's tourism industry has reached 20 million international visitors in a single year, signifying a new milestone in Vietnam's tourism recovery and growth process.

This result clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of the decisive and consistent leadership of the Government and the Prime Minister in implementing tasks and solutions to promote tourism recovery and development; linked with improving visa policies, expanding the international tourist market, strengthening promotion and marketing, and enhancing the quality of tourism products and services. These correct and synchronized policies have contributed to consolidating Vietnam's position as a safe, attractive, and increasingly competitive destination in the region and the world .

The milestone of 20 million international visitors holds special significance for Vietnam's tourism industry. It affirms Vietnam's attractiveness and new position on the world tourism map; it confirms the strong recovery of the international tourism market after the pandemic, with Vietnam keeping pace with the global recovery trend. At the same time, this figure also demonstrates international tourists' confidence in Vietnam – a safe, friendly, and experience-rich destination with endless beauty, both tangible and intangible. This marks an important step, creating momentum for Vietnam to reach its goal of 35 million international visitors by 2030, contributing to making tourism a key economic sector and enhancing the national brand.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the ceremony to welcome the 20 millionth international visitor is expected to include the following activities: a welcoming ceremony for the 20 millionth passenger on the flight; a ceremony honoring three international visitors: the 19,999,999th, 20,000,000th, and 20,000,001st visitors; and gifts bearing the unique mark of Phu Quoc, an island boasting a modern tourism and resort ecosystem amidst breathtaking natural scenery, creating a meaningful highlight for the event.

Currently, the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, the unit assigned by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to preside over and coordinate with relevant functional units, is organizing the event.
