Currently, Vietnam has approximately 5,400 craft villages, including 263 traditional crafts, with 1,975 officially recognized. Many Vietnamese craft villages have become tourist destinations, offering diverse experiences for both domestic and international visitors. However, industrialization and urbanization are impacting the space of craft villages, and many are facing the risk of losing their traditional skills and environmental pollution. Many craft villages are small and fragmented, lacking comprehensive planning and investment, and their tourism products remain monotonous. Craft village tourism faces challenges in terms of transformation and innovation in tourism practices, especially the application of digital technology , market trends, and tourism development.
Based on the above situation, delegates discussed, shared experiences, and proposed recommendations on mechanisms, policies, and methods for developing tourism products from craft villages, investing in human resources, and the value chain of craft village products.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, shared: “We have organized famtrip delegations to survey tourism products associated with traditional craft villages, and this conference serves as a basis for assessing the current situation and discussing solutions. Based on this, we expect to propose action guidelines to build a line of products with distinctive strengths of Vietnam. At the same time, we will propose an action program for the period 2026-2030, in which rural tourism is linked to national target programs, aiming for the dual goal of promoting local socio-economic development, creating sustainable jobs for rural, mountainous, and remote areas while ensuring ecological and cultural preservation, fostering pride in the homeland, transforming local cultural values and the essence of traditional crafts into unique products with a strong Vietnamese identity, and increasing brand competitiveness in the international market.”
