As winter approaches, colds and flu begin to increase. The first cold winds of the season easily cause many people to sneeze, have runny noses, sore throats, and experience more severe respiratory symptoms.
According to the Times of India , there are three mistakes that make you more susceptible to catching the flu in winter, and drinking too little water is one of them.

Drinking too little water
This is one of the common mistakes many people make during the cold season. While we tend to drink more water in the summer, we often neglect to replenish fluids in the winter.
Drinking too little water in cold weather leads to dehydration, thickens respiratory mucus, dries out and damages the mucous membranes, creating favorable conditions for cold and flu viruses to thrive. Simultaneously, dehydration reduces blood circulation, weakens the immune system, making it harder for the body to fight off pathogens, causing fatigue and increased susceptibility to minor illnesses.
Lack of exercise
Skipping exercise in the winter can make you more susceptible to colds and flu. Cold weather weakens the respiratory immune system's defenses, while dry air helps viruses survive longer. Less time outdoors also leads to vitamin D deficiency due to lack of sunlight, and people tend to stay indoors, creating conditions for germs to spread.
Conversely, maintaining regular exercise helps strengthen the immune system, improve resistance, and significantly reduce the risk of minor illnesses during the cold season.
Do not supplement your diet with foods high in vitamin C.
Vitamin C acts as an important antioxidant, helping to strengthen resistance and support the immune system's effective functioning. When there is a vitamin C deficiency, the body's ability to fight off bacteria and viruses is significantly reduced, making you more susceptible to colds and flu.
To proactively prevent illness, you should ensure you get enough vitamin C, especially during periods of fatigue or weakened immunity. Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, and grapefruits are rich natural sources of vitamin C.
