Towards ecological and circular agriculture.

In recent times, despite facing the harsh challenges of natural disasters and African Swine Fever (ASF), Phu Tho's agriculture has maintained its growth momentum, with total grain production reaching nearly 1,145 thousand tons (a 3% increase) and aquatic product output increasing by 5.3%. Building on this foundation, the province's agricultural sector is entering a new phase of development with an ambitious strategy: Shifting from traditional production thinking to building a highly efficient, ecological, and circular agricultural system, aiming to increase added value and achieve sustainable development.

During the implementation phase of the socio -economic development plan for the period 2026-2030, the agricultural sector of Phu Tho province has clearly defined its objective: to build a highly efficient, ecological agricultural system oriented towards high technology, organic farming, and circular economy. The specific targets set for the first year of this phase are to strive for a total food production of over 1,141 thousand tons, a meat production of 486.8 thousand tons, and to have an additional 4 communes achieve the new rural standard.

To achieve these goals, the province is promoting a fundamental shift in thinking and action. This involves transforming from a "agricultural supply chain" to a comprehensive "industry value chain" development. This requires increasing the proportion of deep processing, building strong brands, and minimizing losses.

Towards ecological and circular agriculture.

Phu Tho's agriculture sector aims to achieve a total food production of over 1,141 thousand tons in 2026.

The circular agriculture strategy (circular economy in agriculture) is the most important highlight in the key strategic direction. Instead of the linear production model (production - consumption - disposal), the agricultural sector encourages the utilization of agricultural and livestock by-products and processing to serve production.

For example, crop by-products (straw, corn stalks) are used as animal feed or compost; livestock waste is treated using biogas technology or produced as microbial fertilizer. This model not only helps minimize environmental pollution but also creates a low-cost source of raw materials, closes the production process, and improves the economic efficiency for farmers.

From an ecological perspective, the province prioritizes the development of organic agriculture and the application of high technology to improve productivity and product quality, while protecting soil and water resources. This helps prevent soil degradation, enrich natural nutrients, and minimize surface and groundwater pollution from chemical residues.

Simultaneously, the application of high technology, focusing on smart solutions such as drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation, is being implemented to maximize water conservation in the context of climate change. Soil monitoring and precision farming systems optimize the use of input resources, thereby improving productivity and product quality while ensuring ecological safety.

Towards ecological and circular agriculture.

Alongside the existing specialty pomelo varieties, pomelo growers in Đoan Hùng are experimenting with new varieties that yield high productivity and good quality.

To create a strong value chain, Phu Tho province has identified key agricultural products and specialties as its focus. Famous brands such as Doan Hung pomelo, tea (Tan Son, Thanh Son), cage-farmed fish on the Da and Lo rivers, and high-quality livestock and poultry products will continue to receive investment for brand building, quality improvement, and production scale expansion.

In particular, the province will continue to promote the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program in conjunction with agricultural and rural tourism. This will not only help consume products but also create integrated multi-value projects, transforming rural areas into attractive destinations. Currently, Phu Tho has 609 products that have achieved 3 stars or higher, creating a solid foundation for upgrading quality and expanding markets.

To realize this strategy, Phu Tho's agricultural sector will focus on developing key projects. Of particular note is the project on developing circular agriculture, integrating multiple values for key agricultural products, linked to the development of OCOP products and tourism. In addition, completing the land data infrastructure through the project on surveying and establishing cadastral records and building a cadastral database is a crucial factor, helping to manage land transparently and attracting large-scale investment projects in high-tech agriculture more easily.

With decisive leadership and clear strategic steps, the coming period promises to be a significant milestone, marking a strong transformation of Phu Tho's agriculture towards a green, ecological, and sustainable direction, creating higher value for farmers and the local economy.
