The Quang Trung Campaign in Hue: Rapid house construction, warming the hearts of the people as they celebrate Tet.

In the final days of the year, as the cold air still brought persistent rains to Hue city, construction sites in Loc An and Khe Tre remained bustling and busy. The enthusiastic work atmosphere demonstrated the utmost determination of the entire political system in the Quang Trung Campaign to ensure that people could soon celebrate the Lunar New Year 2026 in spacious and warm homes.

Hopes for a new home

The Command of the Regional Security Department 3 - Phu Loc assisted the family of Ms. Vo Thi Tram (Loc An commune) in building a new house.

In her small garden in Luong Quy Phu village, Loc An commune, nearly 80-year-old Mrs. Vo Thi Tram is watching every brick and wall of her new house gradually being completed. Her eyes light up with indescribable joy. Mrs. Tram likens this joy to winning the lottery because, at her age, she never dared to imagine that she would one day live in such a spacious and sturdy house.

Pointing towards the old house nestled at the end of the garden, Mrs. Tram choked back tears as she recounted: "That's where I used to have to use B40 wire mesh and tarpaulins as shelter. The walls were covered in moss, cracked, and could collapse at any moment. I didn't dare sleep inside, so I had to set up a bed outside or hang a hammock to sleep in temporarily. I didn't dare keep my belongings inside either, but had to pack them up and place them on floating rafts for fear that one day the house would collapse and I would lose everything."

The heavy rains and floods at the end of October 2025 dealt another devastating blow to the already fragile house, causing it to crack and become unstable. The entire family had to flee to a neighbor's house in the middle of the night for shelter. Although it hadn't completely collapsed, the house was no longer safe enough to live in. Then, during the Quang Trung Campaign, Mrs. Tram's family received 100 million VND in support to build a new house. This was not just money, but a "lifeline" that helped Mrs. Tram and her family escape the nightmare of each rainy season.

Ms. Tram's new house is designed with two bedrooms and full living space. Learning from previous flood seasons, the family has reinforced and raised the foundation above the most recent flood level to minimize future flooding. The total cost of completing the house is estimated at around 200 million VND, with most of the labor provided by soldiers from the Command of Defense Zone 3 - Phu Loc (Hue City Military Command), helping the family save a significant amount of money.

Under the light drizzle, the ground at Mrs. Tram's house construction site became muddy and slippery. But the soldiers' footsteps remained swift. Some mixed mortar, others pushed wheelbarrows carrying cement and bricks, while still others built walls at higher levels. Each person had their own task, but all these "soldiers in uniform" shared a common determination to complete the basic structure of the house before the People's Army Day on December 22nd, exceeding the original plan of January 1st, 2026.

Major Phan Viet Vinh, Assistant Head of Staff, Command of Defense Zone 3 - Phu Loc, shared that, in implementing the Quang Trung Campaign according to the Party and State's policy, the soldiers identified this as a key political task in 2025 and viewed helping the people as helping their own relatives. Despite unfavorable weather, everyone braved the rain to dig foundations, pour concrete, and build walls, becoming the "main workers" on the construction site. After about 7 days of construction, the house wall had risen nearly 2 meters.

Don't let people celebrate Tet in makeshift conditions.

Taking advantage of the sunny weather, we are assisting people in building new homes.

Not only in Loc An, the swift and urgent spirit of the Quang Trung Campaign was also evident in Khe Tre commune. This mountainous commune was one of the areas most severely affected by the historic floods in Hue city. Currently, three families whose homes were destroyed by landslides in Xuan Phu village have been relocated to new residences. Among them is the case of Mr. and Mrs. Tran Van Vieng (75 years old).

Witnessing their house and garden being swept away by the floodwaters into the stream, the elderly couple were heartbroken at the loss of their most valuable possessions. However, their worries were quickly alleviated when the local authorities arranged a new home for the family in the resettlement area of Group 1, Khe Tre Commune.

Mr. Vieng happily shared that on the new 200m² plot of land, the house will be built to be much more spacious, safe, and modern than the old one. The estimated cost is around 450-500 million VND, but so far, he has received 120 million VND in support from various organizations. The foundation is basically complete, and the rough construction is expected to be finished before January 31, 2026. With the new house, the elderly couple will feel much more secure, having a safe place to take shelter during the rainy and stormy season.

Soldiers from Regiment 6, Hue City Military Command, assisted residents of Khe Tre commune in building new houses.

According to Lieutenant Dang Nhat Minh, Political Officer of Company 1, Regiment 6, Hue City Military Command, the implementation of the Quang Trung Campaign was an urgent and critical task, requiring each officer and soldier to demonstrate the highest level of responsibility.

"We were determined to do our best before Tet so that the people could have new homes and celebrate a warm, happy Tet. Although the initial living conditions were difficult and the task was unexpected, the officers and soldiers always remained united and highly committed, determined to help the people with all their abilities," Lieutenant Minh emphasized.

According to Tran Van Quang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Khe Tre commune, 10 households in the commune were directly affected by landslides, and nearly 100 other households are located in areas at risk of landslides. Immediately after the launch of the Quang Trung Campaign, the commune closely coordinated with relevant forces to urgently implement repairs and rebuild houses for the people.

The 6th Regiment, Hue City Military Command, assisted Khe Tre commune in building 3 new houses and repairing 7 existing ones.

With the support of various units, newly built houses have received funding ranging from 160 to 240 million VND per house, and the foundations have been largely completed. In addition, seven houses with minor damage are being urgently repaired; the authorities are coordinating with the military to build embankments to prevent landslides in high-risk areas. The goal is to complete the new houses before January 31, 2026, and the repaired houses before December 31, 2025.

The Quang Trung Campaign in Hue was more than just about progress, funding, or the number of houses built. What resonated most deeply was the people's faith, the image of soldiers covered in mud but full of determination, and the smiles of the elderly as they dared to dream for the first time of a Tet holiday without worrying about leaks or drafts. That is the greatest and most humane meaning that the Quang Trung Campaign brought to the people of Hue – a campaign of action, responsibility, and compassion, for a peaceful spring in the ancient capital.
