Within the framework of the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Festival TechFest Vietnam 2025, the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture presented a space densely packed with scientific and technological products. More than just a place to showcase research achievements, the Academy's booth also demonstrated a clear trend: bringing science out of the laboratory and closer to the market and production life.

From plant and animal breeds, vaccines, and biological products to environmental and food technologies, the products displayed at TechFest reflect the research potential of a leading university in the field of agriculture. More importantly, these are research results that are opening up prospects for sustainable commercialization, linking science with practice.

Hundreds of research products are ready to enter the market.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of TechFest, Associate Professor Tran Hiep, Head of the Science and Technology Department (Vietnam Academy of Agriculture), said that the Academy currently has hundreds of scientific research products developed from projects by lecturers and students. These products span many fields such as crop cultivation, animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, aquaculture, biotechnology, environmental technology, and food technology. Many of these research results have been finalized and are ready to be presented to businesses, investors, and the market.

According to Associate Professor Tran Hiep, over the years, scientific research and innovation activities at the Academy have developed strongly in both breadth and depth. In particular, in the context of implementing Resolution 57 on science, technology, and innovation, the Academy is gradually preparing the necessary conditions to put innovation into practice, transforming research results into products with practical and economic value.

From a management perspective, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Hiep stated that Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, has always given special attention to scientific research and innovation. The Academy has developed a specific action plan, focusing on forming strong, specialized research groups and selecting strategic technologies to create key products. The overarching goal is to enhance commercialization, ensuring that scientific research is not merely published or accepted, but truly integrated into production and daily life.

The Academy prioritizes the development of technological fields including genetic technology, vaccine technology, cell technology, nanotechnology, and especially post-harvest processing and preservation technologies. These are considered crucial "bottlenecks" in Vietnamese agriculture. If these challenges are addressed through science and technology, they will contribute to improving the quality of agricultural products and food, and increasing value throughout the entire production chain.

Speaking at the 10th Session of the 15th National Assembly, Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture and a member of the Hanoi National Assembly Delegation, proposed piloting a sandbox-based autonomy mechanism for key universities (exercising strong autonomy while ensuring safety); establishing a national research and innovation center located within universities, with flexible financial mechanisms and strong links to businesses; increasing the proportion of spending on research, not just on infrastructure investment; and issuing standards for "research universities" to guide focused investment. At TechFest Vietnam 2025, the Academy showcased a range of outstanding products and technologies to promote and introduce them to the public, and to connect with the startup and innovation ecosystem. The Academy's exhibition space attracted the attention of many domestic and international businesses, investment funds, and incubators, creating opportunities for research projects with high commercial potential to receive funding and collaboration, gradually bringing their products to market.

In parallel with its domestic activities, the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture has established an international cooperation network with more than 200 universities and international organizations in the fields of training and research. Domestically, the Academy also collaborates with more than 200 businesses to commission research projects, thereby helping research closely align with practical needs and shorten the path to application.

Linking research with entrepreneurship and forming science and technology enterprises.

Another highlight in the Academy's research and innovation strategy is linking scientific research with student entrepreneurship. Each year, the Academy has approximately 500 student scientific research projects, many of which are entrepreneurial in nature, stemming from the research products of their supervising faculty.

Students are given opportunities to test products, develop startup projects, and receive initial support from the Academy, including support in intellectual property, scientific publications, and participation in domestic and international startup awards and competitions. Over the years, Academy students have consistently achieved high results in scientific research and startup awards, with some projects having successfully commercialized in the initial stages.

Regarding the model of science and technology enterprises within universities, Associate Professor Tran Hiep stated that the Academy has a plan for implementation, although the process still faces some obstacles related to mechanisms and policies. In the coming time, the Academy plans to establish approximately six science and technology enterprises within 5 years, focusing on fields such as plant and animal breeding, food, environment, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and flowers and ornamental plants.

Following this direction, products for soil and water environmental management, and biological preparations will form separate science and technology enterprises; the livestock and aquaculture sectors will follow a similar path; and biological pharmaceutical and cosmetic products will be developed in a specialized direction. Students will collaborate with departments and faculties to directly participate in the development and commercialization of these products.
