| The film "Red Sky" opens the annual German film festival KinoFest 2025, taking place in Hue. |
After visiting several major cities, the annual German film festival KinoFest 2025 officially arrived in Hue and opened with the film "Red Sky" at the Intercultural Meeting Point (94 Bach Dang Street, Phu Xuan District) on the evening of December 12th. In addition to the Intercultural Meeting Point, films from the festival will also be screened at BHD Star Hue cinema.
With the theme "reimagining family," the film festival was considered an artistic feast that was warmly received by the audience. Along with "The Red Sky," other famous films such as "The Heroine," "Niko and the Adventure to the Aurora Borealis," etc., were also screened on this occasion.
There, viewers will find themselves reflecting on a blend of laughter and conflict, comfort and resistance. Moreover, the film inspires, challenges, and changes the way we see the world .
At the opening screening, the drama "Red Sky" (directed by Christian Petzold), released in 2023 and winner of the Silver Bear - the Jury Prize at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival, truly captivated the audience.
Lasting over 100 minutes, the film's setting revolves around two characters, Leon and Felix. Both plan to spend a peaceful summer at a small seaside house, with Leon writing novels and Felix creating art.
However, everything changed with the arrival of Nadja and Devid. All four had to share a living space, leading to conflicts and complications. The film takes place under a fiery red sky caused by forest fires, creating a tense yet humorous atmosphere. It also portrays the fragility between creativity and desire, between laughter and sorrow, and the contradictions between individuals and groups.
This year's film festival also features animated films – a genre that children greatly enjoy. Screening on December 14th at BHD Star Hue cinema, "Niko and the Adventure to the Aurora Borealis," directed by Kari Juusonen and Jørgen Lerdam, promises to captivate young audiences.
Considered a heartwarming animated film, the story follows Niko, a little reindeer who dreams of joining Santa's crew. When his sleigh is stolen, Niko and his friends set out to save Christmas. Under the brilliant aurora borealis, he learns that true courage comes from friendship and self-belief.
Lisabona Rahman, curator of the annual German film festival KinoFest 2025, shared that KinoFest 2025 presents a cinematic map of diverse and evolving ideas surrounding the question: What is family?
This year's films expand that concept, going beyond traditional definitions, viewing family as something flexible—shaped by context, work, history, and emotions.
This year's film festival also explores a world sometimes obscured by caregiving jobs. Domestic helpers, nurses, and cleaners—mostly women—are placed at the center of their own stories. These stories highlight how their work nurtures the concepts of "home" and "family," even though their jobs are often overlooked.

In addition to cinema, an exhibition related to German photography is also being held at the Intercultural Meeting Point space.
With the theme "To See or to Be Seen," the exhibition by renowned German photographer Birgit Kleber tells the story within the project "Vietnam - Germany - 20 Faces, 20 Stories."
There, viewers have the opportunity to see portraits of outstanding young figures in the Vietnamese community in Germany – contributions that deserve wider recognition.
Before settling in Hue, this renowned portrait photographer had held more than 30 solo exhibitions around the world, including Berlin, Frankfurt, Paris, and New York. Through Birgit Kleber's lens, subjects are depicted in natural light and carefully staged poses to highlight the subject's eyes.
Oliver Brandt, Director of the Goethe Institute Hanoi – the organizer of the German film festival and photography exhibition – said he was delighted to bring these art programs to the audience in Hue. Over the past time, the Goethe Institute Hanoi has connected with and organized many programs and events in Hue, demonstrating the close relationship between the Goethe Institute and the people of Hue.
