Proactively restore production.
During the Lunar New Year holiday, demand increases significantly, requiring a large quantity of vegetables, and prices therefore rise higher than usual. As a result, people in vegetable farming areas consider this one of the main harvest seasons of the year. Just planting a few acres of various vegetables provides a stable income, helping to cover expenses during the holiday.
However, this year's Tet vegetable crop in Hue City is facing considerable difficulties regarding seeds, fertilizers, and land preparation due to damage and siltation in the fields following recent major floods. Amidst the general difficulties faced by many provinces and cities in the North and Central regions, farmers in Hue City have proactively purchased seeds and fertilizers and prepared the land to restore their vegetable fields.
Mr. Nguyen Hoi, a resident of Thanh Trung vegetable village, Hoa Chau ward, said that this year's storm and flood season completely destroyed most of the local vegetable fields, causing considerable losses for the people. This also affected the supply of vegetable seeds needed for restoration in time for this year's Tet (Lunar New Year) season. However, the people of Thanh Trung and Hoa Chau villages in general have proactively restored their vegetable crops for Tet. At this time (mid-December 2025), the vegetable fields have sprouted, taken root, and are lush with vibrant green.

Quang Thanh vegetable village (now Hoa Chau ward) has a long tradition of vegetable farming, with over 500 households participating. The local vegetable production not only meets local demand but is also sold in several neighboring provinces and cities. Of the more than 100 hectares of vegetable fields in the area, the majority are cultivated according to the safe vegetable production model (VietGAP), with a wide variety of vegetables such as: cabbage, lettuce, bitter melon, cucumber, scallions, spinach, eggplant, tomatoes, and many other types of vegetables.
In Thanh Thuy ward, people are also busy cultivating and caring for vegetables for the Tet holiday. It's noteworthy that most households are proactively resuming production and recovering from flood damage. Thanh Thuy ward is encouraging, promoting, and supporting residents in producing clean, VietGAP-certified, and safe vegetables and fruits.
Mr. Ngo Xuan Phuoc, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Hueponics Cooperative, said that the model of growing vegetables and fruits in greenhouses covering an area of over 1,000 square meters in Huong Thuy ward was systematically invested in by the cooperative, creating a source of clean and safe products to meet market demand. However, the cooperative also suffered significant damage during the recent floods. After the floods, the cooperative urgently restored the vegetable garden to meet market demand during the Tet holiday. The vegetables and fruits have now begun to sprout, promising a harvest in time for the traditional Tet holiday.
Focus on cultivation
According to Mr. Le Minh Tri, Head of the Plant Protection Department of the City's Crop Production and Plant Protection Sub-Department, immediately after the major floods, the agricultural and plant protection sectors, in coordination with local authorities, organized propaganda, mobilization, and guidance for people to restore and care for vegetables, tubers, and fruits in order to promptly meet the consumption needs during Tet (Lunar New Year). To date, people in the city have basically restored and planted approximately 700 hectares of various vegetables, reaching nearly 100% of the total area in the city; of which more than half is planted according to safe farming models and VietGAP standards.

The current weather conditions are very suitable for the growth and development of vegetables and fruits. However, the city's Department of Agriculture and Plant Protection advises people not to be complacent in the process of planting and caring for vegetables for the Tet holiday. It is necessary to closely monitor weather developments, clear drainage ditches to drain water from the fields, and avoid flooding.
Mr. Le Minh Tri also advised that during the cultivation process, vegetable growers should pay attention to balanced fertilization and spray pesticides appropriately and at the right time. They should avoid overusing chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and instead increase the use of organic fertilizers, manually trap pests, and use biological products to control pests and diseases, thereby creating a source of safe, high-quality vegetables. In addition to close monitoring by plant protection officers, people should also regularly monitor the pest situation and the growth of vegetables, promptly reporting to local authorities and the agricultural sector for appropriate action.
With favorable weather forecasts from now until the end of the year, coupled with proper care and cultivation practices, the Lunar New Year vegetable crop promises to be not only productive and efficient for farmers but also ensure quality and safety for consumers.
