Speed ​​up construction of the road behind Lach Huyen port

The project to build the road after ports 3 to 6, Lach Huyen port area is being accelerated, striving to shorten the progress by 6 months.

Construction speed, shorten progress

On a mid-October morning, when a thin layer of mist still lingered on the grass along the road from Tan Vu - Lach Huyen bridge to the port, the construction site of the road project from wharf No. 3 to wharf No. 6 (Lach Huyen port area) was bustling with the sound of horns from trucks carrying materials and pile drilling machines.

Workers operating excavators and pile driving machines with many construction heads create a bustling atmosphere at the estuary.

The route is built on weak ground, so construction measures and techniques must be strictly implemented.

At the construction site, 6 cement pile drilling rigs are operating at full capacity, dozens of excavators and cranes are continuously pushing and scooping the surface layer of mud so that the drill bits can bring cement deep into the ground.

According to construction engineers, this area was previously the sea, the ground was weak, so construction must strictly follow the process and be careful to ensure quality. Because everyone knows the route plays a very important role, considered as a "door" connecting the whole North with the Lach Huyen deep-water port cluster.

In the offshore area (in front of wharfs 5 and 6), engineers took advantage of the low tide to quickly insert geotextile tubes, then pump sand to create a wave-breaking “eel”. The “eel” was as long as the landfill material was poured.

Since the construction began, despite many unfavorable weather conditions due to continuous storms and heavy rains, the contractors have completed 71,642 km of road embankment. /319,540 m 3 , construction of soil cement piles section Km 0+880, reaching 26,500/242,774m. "According to the investor's request, the project's progress has been shortened by at least 6 months, so in the coming days when the weather enters the dry season, we will mobilize more machinery, combine overtime, and increase shifts to strive to complete the first 880 m of asphalt concrete by December 2025", informed engineer Tran Van Toan, Site Commander (Song Hong Joint Stock Company).

According to Mr. Bui Doan Hieu, a supervisory consultant (Minh Vu Company Limited), up to this point, the construction progress of the packages has met the requirements. With the motto "sunshine sticks to the construction site, rain makes the volume", on favorable weather days, the contractor mobilizes maximum human resources and equipment to strengthen the construction teams. On unfavorable weather days, the units focus on completing the volume documents, ensuring the capital disbursement requirements. To ensure the quality of the project, the unit organizes close supervision of construction methods, quality of raw materials, traffic safety and environmental sanitation for the contractor so that the project when put into operation has the best quality and technique.

A boost for Lach Huyen wharf to expand further

Since 2021, the project to invest in the route after wharf 3 to wharf 6 has been proposed. However, after many times of struggling to change the investor plan from the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction ) to the City People's Committee, in March 2024, this project was approved by the City People's Council in principle.

From April 2025, when terminals 3, 4, 5 and 6 of Lach Huyen port area are officially put into operation, the need to invest in the road after the port becomes urgent. Previously, the port owners invested in temporary roads for vehicles transporting construction materials. When the port is completed, the temporary road will become the traffic route for container trucks and trucks entering and leaving the port to transport goods.

In particular, at the meeting with comrade Le Ngoc Chau, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee in early August, Hateco Group (the operator of terminals 5 and 6 - Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port) proposed that the city urgently invest in the route so that businesses can exploit the terminals more conveniently and effectively.

With the strong and close direction of the Chairman of the City People's Committee, just over a week after the meeting, the road officially started construction. The investor committed to shorten the construction time by about 6 months, striving to complete the project by May 13, 2026.

The route from wharf No. 3 to wharf No. 6 in Lach Huyen port area, although not long, is a key project of the city and has a particularly important meaning. When completed, it will connect and shorten the time of transporting goods to and from Lach Huyen port area, promoting import-export and logistics activities in Hai Phong city. At the same time, it will support the investment project to build wharf No. 7, No. 8 and the next wharfs of Lach Huyen port area to start construction soon.

The route also contributes to increasing the attractiveness of Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone and especially Hai Phong Free Trade Zone, firmly affirming the position of Hai Phong city's leading regional logistics center.

The road project after wharf No. 3 to wharf No. 6 is 1,832 m long with a total investment of more than 716 billion VND. The road cross-section is 37 m, with 6 lanes. The project is constructed by a joint venture between Song Hong Joint Stock Company and Hoang Truong Construction and Transport Company Limited; the implementation period according to the contract is 18 months (from August 2025).
