Tam Giang improves the effectiveness of sustainable poverty reduction work

In recent years, poverty reduction in Tam Giang commune has recorded many clear changes thanks to the strong direction of the Party Committee, the government and the joint efforts of the people. Support programs and policies have been implemented promptly and to the right target, creating opportunities for production development, increasing income and improving people's lives.

Identifying poverty reduction as an important task in socio-economic development, since the beginning of 2025, Tam Giang commune has focused on synchronously implementing solutions associated with programs and projects for poor and near-poor households. In addition to fully implementing policies and regimes, the locality focuses on creating jobs, supporting capital and providing technical guidance for people to expand production. Coordination with the Social Policy Bank for preferential loans has been effectively implemented, helping many households have resources to invest in livestock, crop cultivation and small businesses.

In reality, livelihood support is a fundamental solution to help poor households escape poverty sustainably. Commune officials in charge of poverty reduction always stick to reality, choosing production models suitable to each household's conditions.

Mr. Truong Van Nghia, Head of Tam Thinh village, said: “Over the years, poverty reduction work has always been carried out synchronously by the Party cell, the self-management committee and mass organizations. We regularly review and grasp the circumstances of each household to choose appropriate support models, especially livelihood models. In 2025, the village reduced the number of poor households by 3 more. Currently, the whole village has 17 poor households, accounting for 5.68%. This result shows the great efforts of households in changing their thinking and working methods, along with the timely and close support of the poverty reduction staff and grassroots organizations.”

The movement to build a Fund for the Poor has also received positive responses from the people, with the amount of money raised to date reaching more than 735 million VND. In particular, responding to the movement "The whole country joins hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses", the commune has built 27 new houses and repaired 7 Great Unity houses; at the same time, supported the construction of 15 more houses according to Decision 167 of the Government , with a total cost of 340 million VND. These activities have contributed significantly to stabilizing housing and creating motivation for poor households to rise up.

Chairman of Tam Giang Commune People's Committee Le Ky Su said that since implementing the two-level local government model, poverty reduction has received more attention from the commune. According to the resolution, by 2025 Tam Giang aims to reduce the number of poor households by 2-3%. Currently, the commune's poverty rate is over 21%, and the locality is determined to reduce it to about 19% by 2025.

“In the coming time, the locality will continue to promote propaganda work, raise awareness of officials and people about the goal of sustainable poverty reduction; organize reviews of poor and near-poor households according to the correct process, ensuring publicity and transparency to promptly detect cases at risk of falling back into poverty and have appropriate support measures. In addition, the locality focuses on vocational training according to the needs of businesses, creating stable jobs for rural workers; promote the role of organizations in guiding and accompanying poor households, and at the same time mobilize people to support and help each other develop the economy,” Mr. Le Ky Su added.
