Over the past period, the Fatherland Front of Hung Ha district has actively implemented a program to support livelihoods for poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households. Through this program, many families have received the "tools" to develop their economy , improve their lives, and rise out of poverty.
The Fatherland Front Committee of Hung Ha district, in coordination with the Women's Union of the district, presented sewing machines to households in difficult circumstances.
Visiting the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Tu in An Tien village, Chi Hoa commune, he enthusiastically shared with us the success of the "livelihood pig" donated by the Fatherland Front of Hung Ha district: After 5 months of care, the sow has developed very well, has not contracted any diseases, and has given birth to 13 piglets. After deducting expenses, although the profit is not high, it motivates my family to continue caring for the sow. Currently, the sow is pregnant, and we are very hopeful that the next litter of piglets will bring even higher value.
Mr. Tu has been living with chronic kidney disease for the past 13 years. Because he has to undergo dialysis three times a week, he cannot do strenuous work, and his family's finances have become increasingly difficult. In September 2022, with the help of the Fatherland Front Committee of Hung Ha district, he was given a sow to create a livelihood. For him, raising pigs is both suitable for his health and helps alleviate his economic difficulties.
“Over the past period, the Fatherland Front Committee of Chi Hoa commune, along with the village officials in charge, have regularly inspected and supported the family in the process of receiving and raising the pigs to ensure their healthy development and reproduction, and to fulfill their commitment to the Fatherland Front Committee of the district. Therefore, after the first litter of piglets, Mr. Tu donated one piglet to another poor household in the locality,” said Mr. Bui Phu Doanh, Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Chi Hoa commune.
In 2022, not only Mr. Tu, but many poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households in communes throughout Hung Ha district received livestock to support their livelihoods and develop their economy. Specifically, the Hung Ha District Fatherland Front Committee donated one cow worth over 13 million VND to Mr. Ta Van Tien's family in Da Phu 2 village, Thong Nhat commune; and five breeding sows worth over 50 million VND to disadvantaged households in various communes. Currently, these families are actively caring for their livestock, which is initially yielding positive economic results.
Following the program's success, in early 2023, the Fatherland Front Committee of Hung Ha district, in coordination with the Women's Union of the district, donated 10 sewing machines to poor households with difficult circumstances, totaling approximately 50 million VND. Thanks to the new sewing machine, Mr. and Mrs. Ha Dinh Thoan, from Soi 1 village, Phuc Khanh commune, have more motivation to support their two children's education. Mr. Thoan shared: "The effects of Agent Orange/Dioxin have made my life very difficult. Before, my wife and I had to borrow sewing machines to make scarves, but the efficiency was low because the machines were old. Now that we have a new sewing machine, we will try our best to work harder to increase efficiency and income."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Ha, Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Hung Ha District, shared: "With the motto 'give a fishing rod, not a fish,' in 2023, in addition to the sewing machine donation program, the Fatherland Front Committee of Hung Ha District also coordinated with the Hung Ha District Youth Union to donate 500 chicks to 5 disadvantaged households to develop their economy, with over 13 million VND extracted from the 'For the Poor' fund. In the future, we will continue to support them with equipment, livestock, and seedlings to develop their economy, hoping that they will strive to improve their lives."
Not only in Hung Ha, but from 2022 to the present, the Fatherland Front at all levels throughout the province has supported the livelihoods of more than 2,500 poor people with a total amount reaching billions of VND. Along with supporting production means, the Fatherland Front and its member organizations also provide technical assistance, knowledge, and job creation for the poor. Furthermore, the process of reviewing and selecting the right beneficiaries, providing assistance appropriate to each person's conditions and circumstances, helps livelihood models to be effective. Providing livestock for livelihoods to poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households is a meaningful act, demonstrating the responsibility of all levels and sectors in the emulation movement "The whole country joins hands for the poor - no one left behind." This is not only a sharing of the community to help the poor develop their economy in a sustainable direction but also contributes to creating a "key" to sustainable poverty reduction.
The sow donated by the Fatherland Front Committee of Hung Ha district has helped Mr. Nguyen Van Tu's family in Chi Hoa commune improve their economic situation.
