Implementing the Project "Climate change mitigation and adaptation in agriculture and forestry in the Northwest

Meeting to discuss the implementation of the Project "Climate change mitigation and adaptation in agriculture and forestry in the Northwest - Phase 2".

Attending the meeting were leaders of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection; the Department of Forestry; the Forestry Department of Region III and Region XII; the Agricultural Technical Station of Region III and leaders of the communes of Binh Thuan , Muoi Noi, Nam Lau and Muong E.

The project “Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Agriculture and Forestry in the Northwest – Phase 2” is funded by the Bread for the World (BftW) organization. The project is implemented in 4 communes: Binh Thuan, Muoi Noi, Nam Lau and Muong E, following a two-tier government model, starting from August 2024 and expected to end by the end of 2026. The main goal is to help the Northwest community reduce poverty, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change, towards sustainable development goals.

Since its implementation, the Project has conducted surveys on the current status of crop and livestock farming activities in households registered to participate in the cooperative; assessed climate risks and conducted basic project investigations. Organized training courses on circular economy , crop and livestock farming techniques, provided instructions on how to make probiotics; improved production capacity and value chains in communes implementing the project; provided training on the role of forests, biodiversity in forest ecosystems and forest monitoring in forest fire prevention and fighting. Established and strengthened 10 forest protection teams to coordinate with the Forest Protection Department in forest protection and management; provided 200 sets of forest clothing and 5 medical bags for forest protection teams; provided probiotics for 180 households and supported 28 Biogas tanks to treat livestock waste for households, etc.

At the meeting, it was agreed to establish a provincial working group according to the project document to implement project activities to ensure continuity and efficiency, and at the same time integrate local capital sources as counterpart according to regulations.

The provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment requested the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection to advise and issue a document establishing a provincial working group to send to relevant units and communes under the project, requesting staff to participate as members to ensure direction and management. Coordinate with the RSD Center to issue a specific plan on implementing tasks until the end of 2025. The Forest Protection Department reviewed and re-evaluated the afforestation area of the project that has been implemented, as a basis for implementing the next afforestation projects according to plan.
