Prospects for the development of OCOP products

During the 2021-2025 period, the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program has had a widespread impact, unleashing the potential of all localities in the province. The program has attracted active participation from businesses, cooperatives, and households. As a result, OCOP products have increased rapidly in both quantity and quality.

Notably, the province now has 11 OCOP products with 5-star national certification. This further demonstrates that the OCOP program has truly gone into depth, contributing to building the brand of agricultural products for Dong Nai province.

Top in Southeast Vietnam

According to a report from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, prior to the establishment of a two-tiered local government system, the department issued documents to urge and guide localities and entities in evaluating and recognizing 3-star OCOP products and proposing 4-star OCOP product applications to the Department of Agriculture and Environment for evaluation. Accordingly, in the first six months of 2025, localities in the province evaluated and recognized an additional 60 OCOP products and re-evaluated 20 expired OCOP products. The Department of Agriculture and Environment also held a consultative meeting to evaluate 7 4-star OCOP products. Currently, entities are continuing to complete their applications for OCOP product certification. It is expected that from now until the end of 2025, the entire province will conduct two rounds of OCOP product evaluations, with approximately 20 products expected to be evaluated.

As a result, the province now has 481 OCOP products. The program has mobilized the participation of 304 entities, of which nearly 60% are businesses and cooperatives. Compared to the beginning of 2020, the number of OCOP products has increased sharply, averaging about 50% per year.

Based on star ratings, the province has 361 OCOP 3-star products, 109 OCOP 4-star products, and notably, 11 OCOP 5-star products at the national level. The fact that numerous provincial products have achieved national-level OCOP 5-star standards further confirms that this program has truly become more comprehensive. In particular, the recognized OCOP 5-star products are all key agricultural products of the province. Specifically, there are 7 products processed from cashew nuts; 2 products processed from cocoa, and 2 herbal products.

High potential for development

Following the merger into the new Dong Nai province, the potential for developing agriculture in general and the OCOP program in particular is enormous. The province has over 1 million hectares of agricultural land, accounting for nearly 79% of its natural area. It boasts a diverse ecosystem, favorable natural conditions, fertile soil, abundant water resources, a large irrigation system, and is less affected by natural disasters. These are crucial conditions and prerequisites for developing agriculture towards a sustainable, modern, and commercial direction. This also represents significant potential for the province to further develop OCOP products related to culture, tourism , and distinctive agricultural products of each locality.

Dong Nai is also the "capital" of livestock farming in the country, with a total pig population of nearly 4.2 million and a total poultry population of 35.9 million. The livestock industry has promoted the application of high technology with many advanced and modern models; gradually transforming from small-scale farming to industrial-scale commercial farming. In recent times, many OCOP products in the livestock sector have been recognized by the market, contributing to creating added value for livestock products such as: OCOP pork, OCOP herbal chicken, OCOP pasteurized and sterilized quail eggs exported to many countries...

In the coming period, the Department will organize training and awareness-raising activities to equip and supplement the knowledge and professional skills of management staff and program officers at the provincial and commune levels to support and guide OCOP entities in the province in completing registration dossiers for OCOP product evaluation. The Department will also continue to issue documents urging localities to support and guide entities in preparing dossiers for OCOP product certification in 2025.

NGUYEN VAN THANG

Dong Nai is also the center of the Southeast region for fruit trees and industrial crops, with many crops having the largest area and production in the country, such as: cashew trees (approximately 174,000 hectares); rubber (280,000 hectares); coffee (over 20,000 hectares); durian (20,000 hectares); bananas (21,000 hectares); mangoes (nearly 12,000 hectares); rambutan (9,500 hectares)... Among these, many OCOP products are processed from agricultural products such as: jackfruit, pineapple, taro, processed banana products, instant coffee, traditional coffee...

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Van Thang: Over nearly seven years (2019-2025), the OCOP program has been strongly and thoroughly implemented, becoming a highlight in rural economic development. The province has focused on promoting trade and advertising OCOP products, helping to establish brands and expand markets. Agricultural tourism, community-based tourism, and traditional craft village models continue to develop, harmoniously integrating culture, landscape, and OCOP products. Many smart production models, digitized processes, traceability, and e-commerce have been implemented. The province has built an online agricultural product trading platform, contributing to improved production efficiency. Dong Nai also pays close attention to implementing support policies and mechanisms, focusing resources on investing in infrastructure and applying high technology to develop a modern, sustainable, and ecologically-oriented agriculture.
