In Dak Lak, approximately 90% of the coffee growing area and production is currently handled by individual farmers. However, the scale and area of these farms are small and fragmented, making technology transfer difficult. Farmers' coffee production is still largely based on traditional, spontaneous methods, and the application of coffee replanting techniques is limited, with some replanted areas failing to achieve optimal results.

Therefore, the province has set a goal for coffee development that aims for high added value and sustainable development, oriented towards green growth; focusing on models and solutions to minimize environmental impacts while improving coffee quality. Along with this, it aims to establish planting area codes, provide traceability certification, and develop markets linked to brand building to facilitate consumption and generate high market value.

The Brazilian coffee exporters association, Cecafé, also reported that total green coffee exports in the first seven months of 2024 increased by 51.88% year-on-year, reaching 25.83 million bags. This included 20.65 million bags of Arabica coffee, up 31.08%, and 5.18 million bags of Robusta Conilon coffee, up 313.7% year-on-year.

According to a report by the International Coffee Organization (ICO), global coffee exports in June increased by 3.8% year-on-year to nearly 10.8 million bags. For the first nine months of the current crop year (October of last year to June of this year), global coffee exports have increased by 10.1% year-on-year to 103.5 million bags.

Green coffee beans alone account for over 90% of total global coffee exports, with volumes reaching 9.8 million bags in June and a total of 93.8 million bags after the first nine months of the 2023-2024 crop year, representing increases of 3.8% and 10.7% respectively compared to the same period of the previous crop year.

Specifically, Brazil's exports of green Arabica coffee beans in the first nine months of the crop year reached 32.1 million bags, a 24.5% increase compared to the same period of the 2022-2023 crop year. This was mainly due to strong export growth from Brazil and Ethiopia, the two main producing countries of this coffee group.

Colombian Arabica coffee exports have also increased by 12.1% since the beginning of the crop year, reaching over 9.1 million bags. Favorable weather conditions have helped Colombia, the main producer and exporter of this coffee group, to recover positively and boost exports.

Additionally, exports of other Arabica coffee varieties increased slightly by 0.7% in the first nine months of the 2023-2024 crop year, reaching 16.7 million bags. This modest growth is attributed to the narrowing price difference between other Arabica varieties and Colombian Arabica, down to 1.1 US cents/pound compared to an average of 14.6 US cents/pound from the 2020-2021 to 2022-2023 crop years.
