Green squash, chayote, and luffa are easy-to-grow, high-yield, long-lasting plants... high economic value, easy-to-sell output. This is a short-term climbing plant, from planting to harvest is only 90 days and can be harvested 5-6 times/year, selling price from 5-17 thousand VND/kg depending on the time. Currently, people are harvesting chayote, after harvesting, they will plant luffa, green squash and regularly change according to the method of each season's vegetables. To ensure that climbing plants grow well, instead of building traditional bamboo trellises, people pour concrete columns, tie fishing line to create trellises, previously making bamboo trellises saved initial investment costs, but could not be used for a long time, while concrete columns combined with fishing line can be used for about 10 years. Mr. Lu Van Thanh, group 11, Viet Lam town shared: With favorable soil and climate conditions, and being trained in planting and care techniques, Chayote grows well. I find it most convenient to grow on a trellis to care for and harvest. The fruit is beautiful and of good quality, thanks to which my family has better economic conditions.

With the acumen and spirit of learning, striving to develop the economy from the garden, up to now, Viet Lam town has nearly 38 participating households with over 13 hectares of nets, concentrated in groups 7, 10 and 11. From the form of individual production, each doing their own thing, in April 2021, Viet Lam town established a Safe Vegetable Cooperative with 10 participating households, now increasing to 14 households. This is the direction determined to aim for a source of clean, safe food, ensuring food safety for consumers. Thanks to that, on average, each hectare of vegetables and fruits grown on nets brings in an income of 230 million VND. Depending on the area, each household has an average income of 160 - 200 million VND/year, some households earn over 300 million VND/year.

Comrade Pham Van Thuy, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Viet Lam town, said: The town regularly opens training courses on science and technology, advising people to plant crops suitable to local soil conditions, not to massively plant one type of crop, to avoid the situation of supply exceeding demand. At the same time, during the production process, people are always instructed to pay attention to strictly controlling the stages of land preparation, fertilizer use, and complying with VietGap procedures to create a brand and a position in the market for local vegetables.
