Pre-match analysis

Similar to their match against Vietnam at Thong Nhat Stadium, Nepal continued to give their opponent the home advantage by choosing Bukit Jalil Stadium, Malaysia's own stadium, as the venue for their Group F match. This inadvertently benefited Malaysia greatly: no travel required, playing in a familiar environment, and the support of their home crowd.

Before the match, Nepal had a positive preparation with a 2-2 draw against Bangladesh – the first dress rehearsal under new coach Hari Khadka, who replaced Matt Ross after a series of defeats against Vietnam. However, in terms of both squad strength and quality of play, Nepal is still considered far inferior to Malaysia.
