The Washington Post reported that China's Ministry of Public Security announced it had extradited an individual accused of economic crimes who had fled to Morocco.
According to the ministry, the suspect, surnamed Luo, is accused of embezzling millions of yuan (hundreds of thousands of USD) while serving as the chief financial officer of a company, and then fleeing to Morocco. In February 2020, Chinese police launched an investigation, and in July 2022, the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) issued a red notice for his arrest. Moroccan police apprehended him in April of this year, and the court approved his extradition at the end of October. He was extradited to Shanghai on November 18.
The Chinese Ministry of Public Security stated that this is the first extradition from Morocco to China since the extradition treaty between the two countries came into effect in 2021.
