The budget aims to support local governments in providing subsidies to eligible infants and young children. The total amount of subsidies from all levels of government this year will reach approximately 110 billion RMB.

Last year, China launched a national program providing an annual subsidy of 3,600 RMB for each eligible child under the age of three. According to the Chinese Ministry of Finance , the distribution of child-rearing subsidies for 2026 is underway. Under current regulations, health authorities at all levels are tasked with reviewing and disbursing payments. Typically, payments are made at least once per quarter, and all subsidy applications approved in the previous quarter must be paid before the end of the current quarter.
