The European Commission said these talks were part of the EU-China High-Level Digital Dialogue, co-chaired by Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing and European Commission Vice President Vera Jourova.
The meeting took place amid rising tensions between China and the EU after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced an investigation into whether punitive tariffs should be imposed on Chinese electric vehicles to protect EU manufacturers.

China criticized the investigation as an "act of protectionism" and warned it would harm economic relations.
The talks on Monday addressed key issues including data platforms and regulations, AI, and cross-border industrial data flows, according to China and the EU.
The European Commission expressed concern about “the difficulties faced by EU companies in China in using their industrial data due to the implementation of recent legislation.”
China expanded its counter-espionage law last July, with wide-ranging updates including a ban on transferring any information related to national security and a broader definition of espionage.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Zhang Guoqing stated at the meeting that China welcomes companies from around the world , including Europe, to share the development opportunities of the digital economy and achieve mutually beneficial results.
Xinhua News Agency reported that both sides agreed to promote an open, fair, and non-discriminatory environment for the development of the digital economy. They also discussed other topics including research and innovation, and information and communication technology.
