On December 27, Chinese officials said that the country is building the world's highest bridge, Huajiang Grand Canyon, in Guizhou province.
Construction of the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge began nearly two years ago and is now half complete. It is expected to open in June 2025.
The bridge is located in a deep canyon area in the southwest of Guizhou Province. This steel girder suspension bridge is 2,890 meters long and located on a highway in Guizhou. Its design height is 625 meters from the bottom of the canyon to the bridge deck.

Once completed, the bridge will reduce travel time across this mountainous area from about 70 minutes to just about 1 minute.
Currently, Beipanjiang Bridge (or Duge Bridge) located in the border area between Guizhou province and Yunnan province, is the record holder for the highest bridge in the world.
This is a 4-lane cable-stayed bridge, located at an altitude of over 565m, equivalent to the height of a 200-storey building, with a length of 1,341m. The project has held the world record since 2016.
