On January 19, in Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province, Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Binh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and a working delegation from the General Staff visited and inspected combat readiness, the Joint Command Center against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU) and wished a happy New Year to officers and soldiers of Naval Region 5 Command.

On behalf of the Naval Region 5 Command, Colonel Luc Duc Tien, Deputy Commander of the Region, reported to Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Binh on the outstanding results in performing the political tasks of Naval Region 5.
In 2023, the Party Committee and Command of Naval Region 5 proactively grasped, assessed, and accurately forecasted the situation; promptly advised and proposed to the Navy and the Ministry of National Defense to properly resolve issues arising in assigned sea areas.
The region has performed well in training, combat readiness, management, and firmly protecting the sovereignty of assigned sea areas; coordinated patrols, performed well in combating illegal fishing; participated in joint patrols with the Royal Navy of Cambodia and the Royal Navy of Thailand; performed well in search and rescue missions, the program "Vietnam Navy as a fulcrum for fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea", the activity "Navy sponsors fishermen's children"; ensured adequate logistics, finance, and technology for the missions.
Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Binh requested: In 2024, the Party Committee, the Command of Naval Region 5 and the IUU Joint Command must thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the directives and orders from above; strictly maintain combat readiness of forces and means at all levels, especially at sea; well organize spring and Tet activities for soldiers, ensure absolute safety and high combat readiness.
Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Binh, presented gifts and sent New Year greetings to officers and soldiers of Naval Region 5 on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2024.
