On June 17, 2024, CMC University announced the establishment of the Faculty of Microelectronics and Telecommunications, specializing in semiconductor integrated circuits, with the first cohort of students expected in 2024.
The Faculty of Microelectronics and Telecommunications trains students in Electronics and Telecommunications Technology with the following specializations: Semiconductor Integrated Circuit Design (IC Design), Advanced Network and Communication Technology, Embedded Systems, and IoT. Among these, IC design is the main training specialization, aiming to create high-quality human resources and conduct research on integrated circuits and semiconductors, enhancing Vietnam's competitiveness in the global supply chain.CMC University has internationally standardized lab facilities for training in integrated circuit design.
The training program of the Faculty of Microelectronics and Telecommunications is designed to meet the standards of the American Computer Society (ACM) and the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). In particular, students will have access to design, simulation, and testing tools from world-renowned companies such as Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens (Mentor Graphics), Xilinx, etc. After graduation, students can immediately participate in research, design, manufacturing, or packaging of integrated circuits within the semiconductor ecosystem in Vietnam or in the global semiconductor supply chain. CMC University plans to collaborate with leading universities in the field of microelectronics and semiconductors in the United States, South Korea, and Taiwan (China). These are three of the four leading countries and territories in chip and semiconductor technology globally. Furthermore, the university will also collaborate with training institutions and businesses to provide short-term certificates (from 6 months to 2 years), as well as advanced training programs, second degrees, college, university, and postgraduate programs in integrated circuits and semiconductors. Previously, CMC University signed a cooperation agreement with Synopsys – one of the leading chip manufacturers in the US. This corporation will provide training programs according to global standards and train instructors using Synopsys' industry-standard design tools and processes. In addition, Synopsys will connect CMC University with major research institutes, universities, and businesses in integrated circuit design worldwide.CMC University signed a memorandum of understanding with Synopsys Technology Group at the Opening Ceremony of the 2023-2024 academic year.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh, Chairman of CMC Technology Group, also met with the leadership delegation of NVIDIA Corporation - one of the world's leading semiconductor chip manufacturers for AI technology, thereby strengthening the comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two enterprises. CMC and NVIDIA committed to building a long-term comprehensive strategic partnership to implement human resource training solutions and jointly build an AI community including: research, startups, and AI human resource development to transform 1 million programmers capable of applying AI to create new values, contributing to making Vietnam an AI hub in the region. The Chairman of CMC Group welcomed Mr. Keith Streer, Vice President of NVIDIA, at CMC Creative Space, Ho Chi Minh City.
According to experts, Vietnam is facing an opportunity to deeply participate in the semiconductor industry – a multi-billion dollar industry currently experiencing a global shortage of skilled personnel. Therefore, this presents a great opportunity for young talent. Leaders of CMC Technology Group and CMC University also recognize this as a golden opportunity for Vietnamese human resources to learn technology, aiming towards a future of self-sufficiency in chip production and packaging. Immediately after the government announced the "Human Resource Development Plan for the Semiconductor Industry, aiming to train and develop 50,000 personnel by 2030," CMC Technology Group planned to accelerate development in the field of integrated circuit design (IC Design). CMC University aims to train high-quality human resources to serve CMC Technology Group in particular and the semiconductor industry in Vietnam in general.| CMC University has just appointed Dr. Dang Minh Tuan, Director of the CMC Institute of Applied Technology (CMC ATI), as Head of the Faculty of Microelectronics and Telecommunications. He is known as the creator of the Vietkey keyboard, a product that won first prize in the "Vietnamese Intelligence" competition. With over 19 years of experience at the Military Technical Automation Institute and 15 successfully defended state-level and ministerial-level research projects and studies, Dr. Dang Minh Tuan is expected to bring his extensive knowledge and experience to develop the training program of the Faculty of Microelectronics and Telecommunications, especially in the field of semiconductor integrated circuit design at CMC University. |
