Recently, we had the opportunity to witness a class of student Paul Laurant (European School of Fine Arts in Brittany) with teachers at the art practice workshop of Khanh Hoa University. Seeing the student from France attentively listening to the teachers instructing on techniques of silk painting, sculpture, lacquer painting..., we can feel his love and curiosity for these subjects. These are art subjects that are typical of Vietnamese art that Paul Laurant has not studied at his school, so when he first approached them, he encountered many difficulties. However, with the enthusiastic support of the lecturers, he gradually grasped the difficult techniques, even creating his own works. “I have been studying at Khanh Hoa University for more than a month. When I decided to choose this school, I consulted a friend in France and knew that this was a good school, suitable for my learning needs. And indeed, when experiencing the learning environment here, I have been supplemented with a lot of knowledge and skills that are highly practical. The lecturers are also very attentive and enthusiastically guide me to grasp the knowledge in the most convenient way”, said Paul Laurant.

In 2017, lecturer Ngo Van Thanh was honored to be the first person from the school to study at the European School of Fine Arts in Brittany under an exchange and cooperation agreement between the two sides. During his studies, he was equipped with additional skills in pedagogical observation; attending teaching hours; lecturing; grading student papers... In particular, he was also invited by the school to teach sculpture to students. When returning to Khanh Hoa University, he applied the knowledge and skills he had acquired to his own teaching activities. "What impressed me most when studying at the European School of Fine Arts in Brittany was that the school encouraged students' self-awareness and critical thinking in class, so when building my lesson plans, I also paid more attention to this to help students be more proactive and positive in class," said lecturer Ngo Van Thanh.

Lecturer Tran Thi Thuy Tien also spent 3 months studying at the European School of Fine Arts in Brittany in 2018. There, she learned modern teaching methods and how to inspire students to learn. In particular, the school's large-scale workshop facilities ensure that each student has the best learning space. "After studying in France, I have expanded my knowledge of teaching and learning fine arts. The school also organizes exhibitions to introduce students' works for people to see and buy. Students who sell their works are even more motivated to pursue their chosen artistic path," said lecturer Tran Thi Thuy Tien.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tu - Deputy Dean in charge of the Faculty of Arts, implementing the agreement on pedagogical exchange and cooperation between Khanh Hoa University and the European School of Fine Arts in Brittany, each year the school receives 1 to 2 students from France to study fine arts subjects. From 2015 to now, there have been 10 French students studying for 3 months, equivalent to about 300 to 400 hours of study. The students choose to study the following subjects: Drawing; sculpture; wood carving, plaster printing; silk painting; lacquer painting. The school also sent 3 lecturers to France to study. During the 3 months, each lecturer visited and learned about the learning model and teaching methods at the European School of Fine Arts in Brittany. After completing the course, the students and lecturers were scored and evaluated by the school's pedagogical council according to the criteria agreed upon by the two schools. After studying in France, the lecturers have been able to apply what they have learned to their teaching at school. The school is also very happy that some students, after returning to France and completing graduation procedures, have returned to Khanh Hoa University to meet teachers and friends, and learn more techniques and fine arts skills. In the coming time, the two schools will continue to implement the cooperation agreement, and will have assessments and summaries to make this cooperation more effective and deeper.
