On the morning of August 24th, the University of Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) held its opening ceremony for the 2024-2025 academic year, welcoming over 5,000 new students across its training programs.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Mai Thanh Phong, Rector of the University of Technology, stated that the choice of the university by students and their families is not random, especially given the many diverse options available.

"I congratulate and thank you for choosing to study engineering and technology, prioritizing the University of Technology to fulfill your academic aspirations, research passion, and holistic personal development. Becoming a new student at a leading technical university is also the first step in affirming your determination, willpower, and outstanding abilities," said Associate Professor Dr. Mai Thanh Phong.

The leaders of the Polytechnic University emphasized that the progress of science and technology is always the springboard for breakthrough development of each nation. For Vietnam, this is the foundation for the country to catch up and move forward with the times. High-skilled human resources in engineering and technology are a key factor in implementing industrialization and modernization, leading the country to rapid and sustainable development.

As a leading technical university in the country, the University of Technology currently has a training scale of over 25,000 undergraduate students, more than 2,000 postgraduate students, and approximately 250 doctoral students each year. The university offers 39 undergraduate programs, 34 master's programs, and 32 doctoral programs, covering most essential fields of engineering and technology, including pioneering fields that anticipate trends in management, administration, integrated circuit design, logistics, etc., ready to meet the urgent needs of society.

Associate Professor Mai Thanh Phong noted that the upcoming period of study at the university will undoubtedly present many challenges, requiring students to possess patience, discipline, creativity, and good health. However, students' journey will always be supported by their teachers, university staff, and senior students.

In 2024, the University of Technology used five admission methods. The main method was comprehensive admission (including criteria such as academic performance, personal achievements, and social, arts, and sports activities). Academic performance accounted for 90% of the total score, including results from the aptitude test of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City or Vietnam National University Hanoi (70%), results from the high school graduation exam (20%), and results from the high school academic performance (10%).

Statistics on admission results show that nearly 29% of candidates scored above 900 points on the aptitude test, and nearly 10% scored above 27 points on the high school graduation exam and also scored above 900 on the aptitude test. Admission scores for most majors increased significantly, with the highest increase in computer engineering (taught in English).

Among the provinces/cities with students admitted to the school, Ho Chi Minh City continues to lead in the percentage of admitted students, with Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted at the top of the list. More than 19% of the total number of new students this year are female.
