On the evening of November 29, in Hanoi, the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) held the opening ceremony of Vietnam Online Shopping Day - Online Friday 2024: Proud of Vietnamese products standing shoulder to shoulder with global brands.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said that over the years, e-commerce in Vietnam has affirmed its pioneering role in the digital economy . Although the global and regional economies are still facing many challenges, Vietnam's e-commerce continues to maintain an impressive growth rate of 18-25% per year.

In 2023, Vietnam's e-commerce recorded a growth rate of 25%, with a revenue scale of 20.5 billion USD. It is forecasted that in 2024, the market size will exceed the 25 billion USD mark, clearly demonstrating the sustainable development and potential of this field.

According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, to ensure the success of the program, the Ministry of Industry and Trade requires participating sales units to be clear about the origin and authenticity of the products, ensuring the trust of people and consumers when making transactions.

In particular, units need to control promotional and discount programs, ensure their authenticity, and protect consumers' rights. At the same time, promote propaganda, closely coordinate with media agencies, and increase information sharing so that consumers know and understand how to protect their rights when participating in transactions in the online environment.

The organizers said that Online Friday 2024 will take place from 0:00 on November 29 to 12:00 on December 1, including: 60-hour online shopping event on e-commerce platforms and digital platforms in Vietnam; Big OFF festival to experience e-commerce at Hoan Kiem Lake walking space and Hanoi Children's Palace.

In particular, throughout Online Friday 2024, there will also be the participation of content creators and operators on digital platforms and large e-commerce platforms, to introduce and promote regional specialties.

This year's event also saw the participation of more than 30 provincial and municipal Departments of Industry and Trade to launch 60 hours of online shopping in Vietnam locally. Online Friday 2024 also brought together businesses, manufacturers, logistics units, and digital infrastructure solution providers.

In the program, the Voucher Festival by brands, e-commerce platforms Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop, Sendo... brings customers interesting shopping experiences, along with thousands of vouchers and promotional codes when shopping on web and app platforms.

One of the highlights of this year’s program is the Big OFF festival with 10 livestream booths. Of which, 4 livestream booths will represent typical genuine product lines and brands on e-commerce platforms and 6 livestream booths will introduce typical agricultural products and specialties to enhance the value of Vietnamese goods.

At the event, participating brands and businesses introduced thousands of discount and promotion programs for customers to experience. On Online Friday shopping day, users also received discount codes when using online car booking applications when traveling or shopping.

Online Friday is one of the activities within the framework of the program "National E-commerce Week and Vietnam Online Shopping Day - Online Friday".

The program "National E-commerce Week and Vietnam Online Shopping Day - Online Friday" was assigned by the Ministry of Industry and Trade to the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy to coordinate with relevant units to implement annually since 2014.

This is one of the outstanding activities, within the tasks of the National E-commerce Development Program for the period 2021 - 2025 approved by the Government. The event is of great significance for the community to join hands, build solutions for people and consumers; and build a healthy, competitive and sustainable e-commerce market.
