During the days of the historic month of April, along with the joy of the whole country towards the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, the people of the Mining Region remember and engrave an event of extremely important significance - the Mining Region Liberation Day on April 25, 1955. This day 70 years ago became a brilliant milestone in the arduous and heroic struggle for the aspiration of national independence of the heroic people of the Mining Region.
Quang Ninh mining area in the memory of people born and raised before the liberation period is not only the years of arduous struggle, but also an immortal epic of patriotism, strong will and indomitable spirit. 70 years ago, the mining area was brilliant with flags and flowers, everyone shared the same joy.
That was a historic day - the day our army entered and took over the Mining Region, ending more than 70 years of French colonial rule, opening a new chapter for the entire nation. That moment was an explosion of happiness, the sacred image of the red flag with a yellow star fluttering on the top of Bai Tho Mountain, a symbol of victory, of aspiration and of a new future.
Although time has passed, for those who directly participated in the takeover of the Mining Area that year and the people who witnessed that important moment, the emotions are still intact, as if it were just yesterday. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thung (Bach Dang Ward, Ha Long City) is 92 years old this year, but is still very clear-headed. 70 years ago, Mr. Thung directly participated in the takeover of the mining area as a soldier of Company 906. He and his teammates were assigned a special mission, from Cam Pha to take over the Quang Hanh power station, Cot 5 Power Plant, and at the same time form an honor guard to send the French troops off to their country.
Recalling the first day of taking over the Mining Area, Mr. Thung said: Perhaps this was the happiest time of our military life, enjoying an extremely happy atmosphere. When we sent the defeated soldiers off sadly to the ship with their mouths open, there was not a single person in front of us, but wherever we went, thousands of people rushed out onto the streets, holding red flags with yellow stars and waving to the soldiers who came to take over. On the Cua Luc River, fishermen also parked their boats on both sides, when the ship carrying the French soldiers left, the fishermen's red flags with yellow stars fluttered at the estuary. The atmosphere at that time was hard to describe, very happy!
Those days, the joyful atmosphere was filled with people pouring into the streets to welcome the troops with flags and cheers. At exactly 8:30 a.m. on April 25, 1955, at a rally in Hon Gai Town, the Hong Quang Military Political Committee officially introduced itself to the people. The military representative solemnly read the order of General Vo Nguyen Giap, Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnam People's Army, and Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dam, Chairman of the Hong Quang Military Political Committee, conveyed a letter from President Ho Chi Minh to the people of Hong Quang: "The areas previously occupied by the French army have been liberated one after another, and the people of Hon Gai and Quang Yen can live freely again." That affirmation was not only the message of a leader, but also the heart of tens of thousands of people in the Mining Region.
Time has passed, but the historical memories of the liberation days remain intact, reminding every mining resident of the tradition of indomitable struggle to build the Mining Region increasingly prosperous. Seven decades have passed since the Mining Region was liberated, with many challenges, difficulties and ups and downs due to the devastating war during the period of resistance against French colonialism, against the destructive war of American imperialism and the war to protect the border, and then the long subsidy period, but continuing the revolutionary spirit, along with the tradition of "Discipline - Unity", Quang Ninh is determined to rise up, overcome all difficulties to develop the economy - society, ensure national defense - security and has achieved great achievements.
From a poor mining region, where people's lives were extremely difficult in the early days of liberation, today Quang Ninh has changed both in stature and appearance, breaking through and becoming a dynamic, creative province, leading the country in many fields, becoming the innovation center of the Northern Delta, the comprehensive growth pole of the North.
Mr. Dao Duc Nghia, Chairman of the Elderly Association of Bach Dang Ward (Ha Long City) was excited: Quang Ninh has now made very long and steady steps forward, achieving many outstanding results in the socio-economic fields. As a witness to the changes in the locality and a beneficiary of those achievements, I always remember the great contributions of previous generations; clearly aware of my responsibility to continue to preserve traditions and inspire the younger generation to build Quang Ninh to develop faster and stronger, becoming a rich and beautiful province as Uncle Ho once wished.
