10th grade admission in Ho Chi Minh City: Only 488 candidates got 10 points in foreign language subject

The results of the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City surprised many people, especially the foreign language subject.

The 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City in 2025 did not have a "rain of 10s" in foreign languages ​​like previous years. This year, only 488 candidates achieved a score of 10 in this subject, about 1/3 compared to 2024.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Departmentof Education and Training, in the 2025 10th grade entrance exam season, in foreign languages, the city had 488 candidates scoring 10 points; 1028 candidates scoring 9.75 points; 1494 candidates scoring 9.5 points; 2101 candidates scoring 9 points.

The number of candidates achieving excellent scores as above is only about 1/3 compared to last year in foreign languages. This is a special case because foreign languages ​​are considered the "easiest" subject among the 3 subjects in the 10th grade entrance exam. Many students even consider foreign languages ​​as a lifeline subject, helping to increase the total entrance exam score. Annual statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training also show that foreign languages ​​are the subject with the overwhelming number of candidates achieving a score of 9 or higher.

The average score for foreign language in 2025 is 6.75 - 8 points. While last year the average score for this subject was very high: 8.75 - 9.5 points.

Explaining why this year's foreign language exam scores are lower than previous years, English teachers said there are two main reasons.

The first reason is that this year is the first year that 9th grade students take the 10th grade entrance exam according to the new program: the 2018 general education program. Therefore, many students are not familiar with the type of questions that are designed to assess students' abilities.

The second reason is that this year's foreign language exam is more differentiated, only truly excellent candidates can get 10 points.

June 26: Announcement of admission scores for public grade 10

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, on June 26, the department will announce the benchmark scores for entering public grade 10.

This year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has shortened the time to announce exam scores and benchmark scores for grade 10. In previous years, the department only announced benchmark scores in July.
