Jude Soonsup-Bell is likely to make his debut for the Thai national team in November. |
The 21-year-old was once the hope of English football. Soonsup-Bell played for England's youth teams from U15 to U19 in the 2019-2021 period. He grew up at Chelsea, played for Tottenham and is currently playing for Grimsby Town in League Two - the 4th tier. This season, Soonsup-Bell has played 8 matches in all competitions and has 1 assist.
Notably, Soonsup-Bell was named in the squad for the match against Grimsby Town that created a shock and eliminated MU from the Carabao Cup on August 28, despite not playing a single minute. Just two months later, he unexpectedly made a big turn in his career when he chose to represent his motherland – Thailand.
President of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) Madame Pang confirmed the information and said that the process of completing passport procedures and registering Jude to play is being expedited so that he can debut for the Thai national team in November.
"Soonsup-Bell was considered one of the most promising talents in British football before making the historic decision to return to play for the Thai national team," Madame Pang shared.
The event opened a new direction for Thai football, when FAT promoted the strategy of globalizing player resources, recruiting Thai talents playing in Europe - similar to the previous model of the Philippines.
According to plan, Thailand will have a friendly match at home against Singapore on November 13, then travel to Sri Lanka to play the 5th match of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on November 18.
