The Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the USD against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), stopped at 99.24 - down 0.29 points compared to April 18, 2025.

The dollar looks set for a fourth straight weekly decline as tariffs drive investors away from U.S. assets, although it has bounced off a seven-month low against the yen as U.S.-Japan trade talks have so far avoided any currency discussion.

The euro and yen have also been in good form, rising about 5% against the dollar in just over two weeks. The euro eased to $1.1373 in Asia, though it is still on track for a fourth straight weekly gain, even as the European Central Bank is expected to cut interest rates by 25 basis points later in the session.

The dollar hit a seven-month low of 141.62 yen in early Asian trade before recovering above 142 as Japanese Economy Minister Ryosei Akazawa said foreign exchange issues had not been discussed at trade talks in Washington.

“We do not think this is a true de-dollarization process and do not see any real risks to the USD’s reserve currency status,” said analysts at Citi, led by G10 rates head Daniel Tobon. “ However, the world is too focused on US assets. Ultimately, this ‘selling America’ flow could put serious pressure on the USD this year.”
