Competition rate for admission to grade 10 of Natural Science High School in 2025

In the 2025-2026 school year, the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences (under the University of Natural Sciences - Vietnam National University, Hanoi) will enroll 525 students in grade 10 (including Math, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology; each specialized block has 105 students).

Sharing with VietNamNet on the afternoon of May 6, Dr. Le Cong Loi, Principal of the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, said that according to statistics, by the end of the registration deadline, the school received a total of 3,000 applications for the 10th grade entrance exam in 2025, of which the most were in the IT specialized group.

Specifically, with 855 applications for the exam, while the quota is 105, the competition ratio of the IT major is up to 1/8.1; that is, 8 candidates take the exam, only 1 is accepted. The second place is the Math major with 603 applications, the competition ratio is 1/5.7. The Biology major has the lowest competition ratio of 1/3.9.

In 2025, the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences will enroll nationwide candidates whose academic and training results for the entire school year of junior high school classes are at the level of Good or higher.

The 2025 entrance exam for grade 10 of the High School for Natural Sciences will take place over two days, June 1 and June 2.

Each candidate can register for a maximum of 2 out of 5 specialized subjects: Math, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology.

All candidates must take three common exams: Literature, Math (round 1) and English.

Candidates take the specialized subjects corresponding to the registered specialized block, including: Math (round 2) for candidates applying for the Math and Informatics majors; Informatics for candidates applying for the Informatics major; Natural Sciences - Physics knowledge and skills for candidates applying for the Physics major; Natural Sciences - Chemistry knowledge and skills for candidates applying for the Chemistry major; Natural Sciences - Biology knowledge and skills for candidates applying for the Biology major.

Candidates for the IT major can choose to take one of two specialized subjects: Math (round 2) or IT; the quota for candidates taking the Math major (round 2) is 70 and for the IT major is 35.

The exam format is multiple choice for English; multiple choice combined with essay for Literature; essay for Math (round 1), Math (round 2), Natural Science - Physics knowledge and skills, Natural Science - Chemistry knowledge and skills, Natural Science - Biology knowledge and skills; computer programming for Information Technology.

Regarding the exam time, Literature and Math (round 1) are 120 minutes, English is 60 minutes and specialized subjects are 150 minutes.

The 2025 entrance exam schedule for grade 10 of the High School for Natural Sciences is as follows:

Candidates on the admission list for each specialized block must take all 3 general exams (Literature, English and Math (round 1)) and the corresponding specialized exam, without being suspended from taking the exam. The exam score for all subjects must be 4 or higher.

Literature and English scores are conditions and are not used to calculate admission scores.

The admission score is the total score of the Math exam (round 1) multiplied by coefficient 1 and the specialized subject exam score multiplied by coefficient 2. The school does not add priority or incentive points in admission.

The exam results will be announced by the school before June 24 via text message to the candidate's phone number in the exam registration form, on the admissions website, and the school's website.
