Vietnam's U17 women's team avoids Japan, dreams of a World Cup ticket.

After finishing second in their group, the Vietnam U17 women's team has identified their opponent in the quarterfinals of the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Championship.

On the afternoon of May 8th, the Japanese U17 women's team secured an easy 5-0 victory against the Australian U17 women's team. Thus, the team from the Land of the Rising Sun won all three matches, earning a perfect 9 points and topping Group B. Australia finished second with 4 points and will be Vietnam 's opponent in the quarterfinals of the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Championship.

According to the schedule, the Vietnam U17 women's team will face Australia at 2 PM on May 11th. The winning team will qualify for the 2026 U17 Women's World Cup. By avoiding Japan, the Vietnam U17 women's team is facing a historic opportunity.

Earlier, the Vietnam U17 women's team advanced beyond the group stage of the AFC U17 Women's Championship for the first time after a thrilling 2-1 victory against Myanmar. Coach Okiyama Masahiko 's team finished the group stage with 4 points, ranking second in Group A thanks to a better goal difference than Thailand. To motivate the entire team, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) awarded them a bonus of 500 million VND.

"Perhaps the previous two matches were too intense, so the players haven't fully recovered. However, the team was united and encouraged each other to win the final match. The final result is very important," said coach Okiyama Masahiko about the victory against Myanmar.
