The favorable result in Group C between the Indian U20 women's team and the Chinese Taipei U20 women's team helped the Vietnamese U20 women's team qualify for the quarterfinals of the 2026 AFC U20 Women's Championship. This also marks the second time in history that the Vietnamese women's youth team has advanced beyond the group stage in this continental tournament.
The final match of Group C saw the Indian U20 women's team clash with the Chinese Taipei U20 women's team in a third-place playoff. The Indian U20 women's team won 3-1 and finished the group stage in third place with a goal difference of -9.
This result is worse than the Vietnam U20 women's team – who finished third in Group A with 3 points and a goal difference of -5. Thanks to this, coach Okiyama Masahiko's team officially became one of the two best third-placed teams after the group stage, thus securing a place in the quarterfinals.

Earlier, the Vietnam U20 women's team secured an important 1-0 victory against Bangladesh U20 in their final Group A match. The only goal of the game was scored by Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh in the 49th minute. This was also the fourth victory for the Vietnam U20 women's team in their history at the AFC U20 Women's Championship, and the first time the team defeated an opponent outside of Southeast Asia.
Looking back at history, the last time the Vietnam U20 women's team advanced beyond the group stage was at the 2004 AFC U20 Women's Championship (then the U19 tournament), held in Suzhou, China, from May 20th to June 6th, 2004. At that time, the Vietnamese women's team reached the quarterfinals after a 17-0 victory over Malaysia, before being eliminated by South Korea with a 1-5 score.
According to the schedule, in the quarter-finals of the 2026 AFC U20 Women's Championship, the Vietnam U20 women's team will face the Japan U20 women's team. The winning team in this round will qualify for the 2027 Women's U20 World Cup.
