On March 31, Ms. Naomi Kitahara - Chief Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Vietnam and MSD for Mothers had a working session at the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee to discuss the implementation of some activities of the project "Leaving no one behind: Innovative interventions to reduce maternal mortality in ethnic minority areas in Vietnam".
Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Naomi Kitahara - UNFPA Representative in Vietnam said that the project "Leaving no one behind: Innovative interventions to reduce maternal mortality in ethnic minority areas in Vietnam" was implemented in 14 communes in 04 districts: Mang Yang, Chu Pah, Chu Se and Kong Chro.

The project aims to increase access to and use of comprehensive, quality and voluntary reproductive and sexual health care services for ethnic minorities; improve capacity for managing obstetric emergencies in mountainous areas and build a network of village midwives in ethnic minority and remote areas.
Ms. Naomi Kitahara said that the delegation had conducted a field survey in Mang Yang district and had made assessments, considered and compared the differences between other localities implementing the project to have an effective implementation method. At the same time, she hoped to continue to receive support and assistance from the province in the coming time.
Also at the meeting, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich expressed that the implementation of the project "Leaving no one behind: Innovative interventions to reduce maternal mortality in ethnic minority areas in Vietnam" has helped ethnic minorities have better access to health care services.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee hopes that in the coming time, the expert team and the MSD for Mothers Fund will continue to effectively implement the goals set out in the project. On the Gia Lai side, the province will direct relevant departments, branches and localities to commit to creating favorable conditions for the expert team to implement the project. He also hopes that the successful implementation of the project can replicate the model in many other localities in the province.
