Applying technology to enhance the value of cashew nuts in Binh Phuoc.

On July 7th, the People's Committee of Binh Phuoc province, in coordination with the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Vietnam Cashew Association, organized a workshop on scientific and technological solutions to enhance the value of the cashew industry in Binh Phuoc province.

According to Mr. Chu Thuc Dat, Director of the Department of Local Science and Technology Development (Ministry of Science and Technology), the cashew industry in Binh Phuoc has been facing several difficulties that need to be addressed, such as cashew varieties, cultivation and intensive farming processes, and technologies and products for deep processing of cashews.

According to the Cashew Research and Development Center, Binh Phuoc needs to focus on transferring science and technology into production; prioritizing the production and quality control of seeds, fertilizers, biotechnology, preservation, and processing of products. Applying safe production methods that meet VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards will help improve the yield and quality of cashew nuts.

Dr. Duong Thi Ngoc Diep, Department of Chemical and Food Technology (Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry), shared: Cashew nuts currently have great development potential and can be used to produce many products such as fermented cashew juice, candied cashews, cashew jam, cashew wine, spices, natural coloring agents, etc. Cashew products can be applied in many different fields such as food technology, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. This demonstrates the feasibility of utilizing various components of cashew nuts, contributing to the processing into high-value products in line with the by-product production model.

According to Mr. Bach Khanh Nhut, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Cashew Association, cashew by-products such as cashew nuts have been studied by scientists and used to make beverages and confectionery. Currently, almost nothing from the cashew tree goes to waste.

"I hope that through this workshop, with the support of the Binh Phuoc Provincial People's Committee in policies and solutions to expand the market, in the near future the Vietnamese cashew industry will have more high-quality processed products that will be favored by consumers," Mr. Nhut shared.

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Phuoc province, Tran Tuyet Minh, emphasized that cashew processing businesses need to strictly control production processes, ensuring food safety and quality. Simultaneously, they should promote the registration of intellectual property rights for their products and gradually build and promote the brand of products bearing the "Binh Phuoc cashew" designation in the market.

On the same day, the People's Committee of Binh Phuoc province, in coordination with the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Vietnam Cashew Association, inaugurated the 2023 Cashew Techmart event. This event brought together 85 booths from nearly 30 units, organizations, and businesses from inside and outside the province.
