Application of modern technology in construction of Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang Expressway

- Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang Expressway Phase 1 is being implemented with a total length of 77 km through Tuyen Quang province, with a total investment of up to 6,800 billion VND. In order to ensure the progress and quality of the project, contractors have applied a series of modern technologies in construction, helping to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Surveying the field at some bridge points in package 24 such as O Ro bridge, Km48+310 viaduct and Ham Yen bridge constructed by Deo Ca Group, Mr. Le Duc Tranh, Director of the Package Management Board, said: The joint venture has mobilized 242 engineers, workers and 98 specialized machines and equipment to focus on construction. For the O Ro bridge location (Km36+990), 35/43 bored piles have been constructed, 3/5 concrete batches of T1 pier have been poured, 4/6 concrete batches of T2 pier have been poured, and the unit is preparing to cast SuperT beams. At the Km48+310 viaduct, 28/34 bored piles have been constructed, 50% of the SuperT beams have been cast, and the T2, T3 pier bodies, the first base of T1 pier, and T5 pier base have been completed.

Ham Yen Bridge on the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang Expressway is applying the most modern construction technology today.

At Ham Yen Bridge, the lower section of 7 piers has been completed, 75% of the I33 beams have been cast, 2 K0 segments of the cantilever beam have been cast, and the jointing is expected to take place in August 2025. For Ham Yen Bridge alone, the contractor used twice as many cranes, tower cranes, and cantilever beam casting vehicles as the approved construction plan to ensure overall progress. Currently, the joint venture is urgently implementing the remaining items.

Mr. Tranh said: In recent years, the Group has applied a technology that has been widely used in the world, which is the technology of constructing continuous prestressed reinforced concrete box girders using the balanced cantilever method. The advantage is to reduce scaffolding costs. Formwork is reused many times with the same repetitive operation, which will reduce labor costs and increase labor productivity, speeding up construction progress. The balanced cantilever method is suitable for constructing span structures with variable cross-section heights. When casting beam segments, it is only necessary to adjust the height of the beam bottom formwork accordingly. Changing the cross-section height allows for the reasonable use of structural materials, reducing the weight of the structure and allowing for large spans. Using the balanced cantilever construction method for medium and large span prestressed reinforced concrete bridges has many advantages, especially in difficult construction conditions, where scaffolding systems cannot be constructed, such as in cases of crossing deep valleys, wide rivers, etc.

At the intersection of National Highway 13B through Thai Hoa Commune (Ham Yen), the construction by Phuong Dong Investment and Development Joint Stock Company has reached 50% of the contract value. The company mobilized 200 locomotives, compaction equipment, and earth-carrying trucks, all of which are the world's number 1 brands, to perform the construction with efficiency, effectiveness, and quality as committed. Mr. Ngo Hung Son, a technical officer of Phuong Dong Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, affirmed: With a system of modern machinery, the unit is committed to completing the progress signed with the investor.

The section from Km67+800 to Km77+00 under package 23, which is constructed by Vinh Thinh Construction and Investment Joint Stock Company 122, has complex mountainous terrain, the geological foundation is mainly rocks mixed with soil, the excavation volume is large, and it requires a combination of many technical solutions such as blasting, rock breaking, deep excavation, and roadbed treatment. The company also undertakes the construction of civil underpasses, installation of box culverts, and circular culverts in the section.

Mr. Pham Van Huan, Chairman of 122 Vinh Thinh Construction and Investment Joint Stock Company, said: The company has mobilized 22 excavators, 39 trucks, 12 bulldozers, 28 rollers, one drill, one grader, three loaders, two water tanks, one oil tanker, four mixers, one boom pump and built a concrete mixing station to serve the construction. When the weather is favorable, the company digs and fills about 30,000 m3 of soil and digs more than 4,500 m3 of rock each day. The construction progress is being carried out vigorously to make up for the previous rainy days when construction could not be carried out.

In addition, an online construction management and supervision system has been applied, allowing real-time monitoring of project progress. GPS and drone technology supports terrain surveying and accurate construction quality inspection, helping to minimize errors. As of April 23, the value of construction and installation reached over VND 1,611 billion/4,789 billion, reaching 33.65% of the total contract value. Currently, the number of personnel present at the site is up to 2,000 people, with more than 967 machines and equipment mobilized into 111 construction teams to ensure completion progress according to plan.

With human efforts and modern equipment and technology, it is expected that Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang Expressway, Phase I will be completed at the fastest speed and with the best quality, serving the economic and social development of the locality.
