This is the 4th case performed at the hospital and previously, Hoa Lu Eye Hospital and Song Tien Ben Tre Eye Hospital also successfully performed 8 cases using this technique.
The patient is Mr. Nguyen VB (72 years old, residing in Duc Trong commune, Lam Dong ) with cataracts and a history of glaucoma for many years. He is being treated with 3 types of combined drugs but still cannot control his eye pressure due to not responding to the drugs, causing a lot of pain and continuous high eye pressure.

After being examined at Saigon Da Lat Eye Hospital, under the examination and professional guidance of Dr. Tran Ba Kien, Chairman of the Professional Council of VISI Medical Group, the patient was indicated for PGI (Paul Glaucoma Implant) surgery. This is an advanced treatment method being applied at many major ophthalmology centers in the world . After treatment, the patient's intraocular pressure was stable, the patient did not need to use additional eye pressure lowering drugs; the conjunctival sac was good, the valve functioned well; the eye pain was gone.
Paul Glaucoma Implant is a modern aqueous humor drainage device, made from super soft, super thin silicone material of only 175 microns. The design of PGI is suitable for Asian eye anatomy, helping to significantly improve the drainage of aqueous humor from the anterior chamber to the subconjunctival area, thereby effectively reducing intraocular pressure and stabilizing it for a long time. PGI has many outstanding advantages: reducing the risk of postoperative intraocular pressure drop, thanks to a better flow control design; reducing the rate of inflammation or surrounding tissue reaction, thanks to friendly biological materials; reducing the frequency of post-operative medication use, improving the patient's quality of life; limiting long-term complications such as valve exposure or fibrous tissue formation causing flow obstruction. PGI surgery is the optimal choice for patients with severe glaucoma, providing a new direction in disease control.
