
The objective of the Plan is to implement Decision No. 245/QD-TTg dated February 5, 2025, of the Prime Minister approving the Plan for the Development and Application of Atomic Energy for the period up to 2030, with a vision to 2050 (the Plan), ensuring its effectiveness and efficiency.
Simultaneously, the plan specifies the objectives, development directions, and applications of radiation and radioactive isotopes in various sectors and fields, along with solutions and resources for implementation, linked to the assignment of responsibilities to ministries, sectors, and localities in implementing the Plan and building a roadmap, identifying key content, progress, and resources for implementing important programs, projects, and priority investment projects.
The plan outlined the main content to be implemented and specific goals to be achieved by 2030.
According to the Plan, research, application, and training facilities in the field of atomic energy will have their technical infrastructure upgraded, and the quality of human resources and operational efficiency improved.
Specifically, relevant authorities will study and develop a plan to establish a national institute/center for radiation medicine; invest in equipment and personnel for several leading oncology departments with radiotherapy equipment (or radiotherapy departments), nuclear medicine, including the Army's Nuclear Medicine and Oncology Center; develop specialized human resources and supplement specialized equipment in atomic energy for units carrying out geological and mineral surveys, meteorological and hydrological monitoring, water resources, and environmental monitoring to serve socio-economic development; build strong research groups on the application of radiation and radioactive isotopes in plant breeding and selection; pest and insect control; and food irradiation to enhance the application of atomic energy in agriculture...
According to the assignment, the relevant authorities will implement several important projects as follows: Upgrading and improving the national environmental radiation monitoring and warning network; strengthening the research-development and technical support capacity of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute; developing an investment project for a Cyclotron accelerator and laboratory system in Hanoi to conduct research and development of radiopharmaceuticals; enhancing national radiation medicine capacity and organizing the implementation of medical radiation control nationwide in accordance with the guidelines of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the World Health Organization.
