Seedling cultivation opens the way to get rich

Members of Huu Lung Seed Cooperative check the quality of seeds.

In recent times, many households in Tuan Son commune have developed a forestry nursery model to serve the people's forest planting needs, however, households mainly produce on a small scale. In order to operate systematically, ensuring the quality standards of production gardens as well as seedlings, in 2023, households joined together and established Huu Lung Seed Cooperative with 12 members (mainly nursery of acacia and eucalyptus trees).

Mr. Duong Tu Dinh, Director of the Cooperative, said: After the Cooperative was established, members participated in training courses on forestry seedling nursery techniques organized by specialized agencies of the province and Huu Lung district (old) to apply in production. In addition, members also shared experiences to produce seedlings effectively. To ensure the quality of seedlings, members of the Cooperative focused on selecting seedlings with origin, quality, and high productivity for nursery; proactively built roofs, installed automatic irrigation systems in the nursery to improve production efficiency.

At the same time, the Cooperative has submitted documents to competent authorities for consideration and recognition of the parent tree garden, thereby helping to improve the quality of tree varieties. Currently, the Cooperative's seedlings not only serve people in the province but also expand to other provinces such as Thanh Hoa, Nghe An , Tuyen Quang... Since its establishment, on average each year, the Cooperative has produced and supplied the market with 10 million seedlings/year.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Phu, a member of the cooperative, said: My family started a forestry nursery in 2021 (mainly acacia trees), but at that time only produced a small quantity. In 2023, I joined the Huu Lung Seed Cooperative, from which I was able to gain more knowledge, share experiences in nursery techniques, preserve tree varieties and expand the product consumption market. On average, each year, my family sells over 1 million seedlings to the market, bringing in an income of over 200 million VND.

Over the years, the cooperative's revenue has always been stable, reaching 2-3 billion VND/year, and members' income has reached 100-500 million VND/year. In addition, the cooperative also creates jobs for 4 official workers and 5-7 seasonal workers in the locality.

Mr. Le Tien Dung, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Tuan Son Commune, assessed: Although it has only been in operation for about 2 years, the Huu Lung Seed Cooperative has initially operated effectively. In the coming time, the department will advise the Commune People's Committee to coordinate with specialized agencies to organize training and guide cooperative members to apply science and technology in seedling cultivation. Thereby, continuing to improve quality, opening up an effective direction in developing collective economic models in the area.

With its dynamism and sensitivity in production and business activities, Huu Lung Seed Cooperative has succeeded in its forestry seed business model, promoting the strengths of the locality. In the coming time, the Cooperative plans to increase the number of seedling production, striving to sell 150,000 seedlings/year to the market and grow other seedlings such as: lat, black canarium, white canarium... to meet the increasing demand of customers and at the same time help increase income for members.
