According to the TASS news agency on May 29, Russia has yet to receive any response from Tehran regarding its proposal to remove enriched uranium from its territory. This information was officially shared with the Izvestia newspaper by Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom).
"We have clearly stated our position and technical solutions to them. But so far, there has been no response from Iran," the head of Rosatom said.
Besides diplomatic matters, Likhachev also drew particular attention to the tense situation on the ground. Despite declarations of a ceasefire, the warring parties continued to conduct intense bombing raids and fire exchanges. This conflict is creating serious security risks for the experts, engineers, and personnel working at the Bushehr nuclear power plant.
"Under these harsh and unstable conditions, we absolutely cannot risk human lives," the head of Rosatom Corporation emphasized. This statement is seen as affirming Moscow's top priority principle of protecting its citizens and technical personnel in the conflict zone.
In a related development, Iran's Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Bagheri-Kani, told reporters that the Gulf nation's core and sole priority at this time is to completely end the conflict with the United States. Therefore, technical aspects and other international issues are currently not on Tehran's agenda.
The issue of transporting uranium out of Iran, specifically its enriched uranium stockpile, is one of the key negotiating points between Tehran and Washington aimed at achieving a complete end to hostilities. Previously, on May 9th, in an interview with reporters, Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that Russia's constructive proposals regarding a roadmap for handling Iran's uranium remain on the negotiating table, awaiting a positive response from all parties involved.
