In this year's 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City, the math exam received mixed opinions regarding its difficulty level. After the math exam on the morning of June 7th, many candidates broke down in tears, claiming the questions were difficult and "unusual." However, among them, 49 students still achieved perfect scores.

According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, 98,361 candidates took the Mathematics exam, with 320 absent. Among them, 49 papers received a perfect score, 31 papers scored 9.75; 132 papers scored 9.5; 123 papers scored 9.25; and 276 papers scored 9.

Additionally, in Mathematics, there were 7,170 papers that scored 5 points, 123 papers with a score of 0.25, 142 papers with a score of 0.5, 188 papers with a score of 0.75, and 256 papers with a score of 1.

Score distribution for the Mathematics subject in the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City 10th grade entrance exam.

The 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City took place over two days, June 6-7, with more than 98,000 candidates competing for 77,300 places.

The admission score for the regular program is the sum of the scores of the three subjects: Literature, Mathematics, and Foreign Language, plus any priority points (if applicable). Candidates must take all three exams, not violate regulations, and not receive a failing grade (0 points).

Some teachers grading the exams said that the Literature scores were mostly concentrated in the 5-7.5 range. The number of students scoring 9 or higher was not as high as last year. For Math, perfect scores (10/10) were few and far between, and high scores (8 or higher) were rare. English didn't see a "flood" of perfect scores; the common range was 6-8. Therefore, the predicted cut-off score for 10th grade this year is expected to decrease by 0.5-2 points.

Last year, Nguyen Thuong Hien High School had the highest entrance score with 25.5 points (an average of 8.5 points per subject). The top 10 also included Gia Dinh, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Nguyen Huu Huan, Bui Thi Xuan, Phu Nhuan, Tran Phu, Le Quy Don, Mac Dinh Chi, and Nguyen Huu Cau, all with entrance scores of 23 points or higher.

The lowest scores were achieved at Da Phuoc High School, Binh Khanh High School, Can Thanh High School, An Nghia High School, and Thanh An Secondary and High School, with 10.5 points, averaging 3.5 points per subject.

The method for calculating admission scores to 10th grade in public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City is as follows:

Admission score = Literature exam score + Foreign language exam score + Mathematics exam score + Priority points (if any).

How to calculate admission scores for specialized schools:

Admission score = Literature exam score + Foreign language exam score + Mathematics exam score + Specialized subject exam score x 2.

In this system, the scores for each subject are calculated on a 10-point scale. Successful candidates must take all three exams and not receive a score of 0 on any exam.

According to the plan, on June 24th, the Department will announce the cut-off scores for specialized and integrated 10th-grade classes, as well as the results of direct admissions.

On July 10th, the cut-off scores for admission to regular 10th grade classes are announced.

From July 11th to August 1st, successful candidates confirm their enrollment.
