AI cameras are an essential need for smart cities.

According to a Forbes Advisor survey, artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being used in many fields, including customer service (56%), cybersecurity and fraud management (51%), digital personal assistants (47%), and customer management (46%).

Mr. Vu Van Tiep, Product Director of Veka.ai, VNG Digital Business, presented the AI camera solution at Tech4life.

According to Market Research Future, the global AI camera market reached $20.1 billion in 2022 and is projected to grow to $23.1 billion in 2023.

Annual growth is projected to reach 15.2% between 2023 and 2032. This growth stems from the need for monitoring and management in retail stores, improving business efficiency, and enhancing customer experience.

Currently, AI cameras are considered essential for smart cities, meeting the needs for monitoring and management in commercial establishments; improving business efficiency, enhancing customer experience; and ensuring security across smart cities. Many AI-powered products have been developed to meet business needs, and the application of AI for video analysis is becoming increasingly popular.

However, the application of AI also brings many challenges, such as data security and the high cost of equipment and infrastructure required for its implementation.

Operating smart cities using AI cameras.

At the Tech4life event recently held in Ho Chi Minh City, VNG Digital Business, a subsidiary of VNG, introduced a solution using AI cameras to operate smart cities in the Vietnamese market, called Veka.ai.

Accordingly, Veka.ai provides smart city solutions such as building access management, from parking systems to entry/exit systems, using various protocols such as:

Facial recognition, whereby AI cameras can identify employees to automatically open gates or restrict access areas, helps the building operate efficiently and securely. The system analyzes and uses employee information to modernize access processes through facial recognition, identity, department, and job title.

Additionally, this solution can identify customers, VIPs, or partners through settings to recognize VIPs and important partners. The system can be configured to notify managers as early as possible to improve service quality.

The system offers license plate recognition capabilities ranging from simple to advanced, connecting various subsystems on a single platform to manage access. It also integrates the software with access control devices such as security booths and barriers, allowing AI to automatically recognize and operate the system, while simultaneously recording events.

This is also a solution used to ensure security in the area, and integrating AI into security management is an advanced solution to improve the performance and reliability of current security systems, as AI is capable of analyzing and processing data from surveillance cameras, sensors, and other information sources to automatically detect security incidents and quickly detect intrusions and trace unusual behavior.

In certain areas where events are frequently held, proactive AI-powered detection and analysis of crowd behavior can minimize risks to human life and property.

Additionally, AI can detect suspicious individuals, providing tools to search for individuals already on the suspicious list or new individuals not yet in the database who need to be added to the watchlist.

Managers can drag and drop images of subjects, and the AI will analyze the images to determine facial features and body type. Even if the subject changes clothing, the system will still recognize them.

In addition, Veka.ai's AI solution is also used to analyze data from traffic cameras to detect unusual incidents such as running red lights, driving in the wrong lane, detecting traffic jams, and setting management goals to prevent accidents and incidents.

Mr. Vu Van Tiep, Product Director of Veka.ai, VNG Digital Business, said: “In Vietnam, there is still huge potential for the development of AI cameras. Besides the strengths of the domestic market and customer understanding, Veka.ai also has a strong foundation in VNG's Cloud and Data Center infrastructure, along with the capacity to develop AI and build products for tens of millions of users, meeting the needs of many different fields.”
