Vietnamese referees trained on VAR technology
Recently, representatives of Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company received the first shipment to serve the implementation of VAR as planned this May.
This shipment mainly includes communication equipment for the referees controlling the match and the VAR referee team, along with some equipment serving VAT implementation such as: screens, connector devices, camera signal converters mounted on VAR vehicles with 26 equipment items.
It is expected that in the next handover at the end of May, the equipment will be fully installed and put into operation to serve VAR referee training as planned.
Over the past two months, VPF and the Vietnam Football Federation have conducted two VAR referee training sessions with 18 referees and assistant referees with the help of FIFA. The third training session will take place in mid-June with practical exercises on the field and practice on the VAR vehicle.
It is expected that VAR technology will be officially applied in the V-League 2023/2024 season after FIFA approves all implementation steps in Vietnam.
VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan once shared with the media: "The application of VAR technology is a trend in football development, reducing pressure on referees, creating good conditions for referees to complete their tasks.
Regarding the VAR project, Vietnam is receiving great support from FIFA. The trend of VAR being covered in all professional matches is the goal that VFF is aiming for.".
Meanwhile, VPF General Director Nguyen Minh Ngoc said: "In the development of modern football, VAR technology is very important, helping to minimize unnecessary referee errors.
With the current reality of Vietnamese football, VAR's early appearance in V-League is not only the desire of the clubs, but also the desire of VFF, VPF, and the Referee Board in creating a better, more attractive and fairer tournament."
