Thanh Khe District ( Da Nang City) has just opened an exhibition of artistic and news photography at the Thanh Khe District Traditional House - Library (374 Dien Bien Phu Street).
The photo exhibition, themed "Thanh Khe: 50 Years of Construction and Development," celebrates major anniversaries such as the 95th anniversary of the founding of the City Party Committee, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang City, and the 50th anniversary of national reunification.
Previously, the Thanh Khe District Cultural and Sports Center, in collaboration with the Da Nang Photography Club, invited photographers and photography enthusiasts to contribute their works; then they organized a selection process, compiled the entries, and awarded prizes.
Over nearly two months after the competition was launched, the organizing committee received more than 100 individual photos and photo sets from 20 authors in the city. After two rounds of judging, the jury selected 31 works for exhibition and award consideration.
The exhibition showcases photographic works depicting the beauty of Thanh Khe District and the region's development through different historical periods.
The artistic news photographs depict the Thanh Khe region as it changes day by day, becoming rich, beautiful, vibrant, civilized, and steeped in historical value...
Among them, the most impressive are the photographs depicting the transformation of the Phu Loc River, a river that runs through the heart of the city, winding through residential areas before flowing into Da Nang Bay.
Urbanization transformed the river into a hotspot of environmental pollution decades ago, but it has since been revitalized and today boasts a pristine, peaceful beauty.
Along with the Phu Loc River, the lake system in the center of Da Nang City (mainly concentrated in Thanh Khe District) has also undergone changes.
Da Nang City and local authorities have devoted significant resources to improving the ecological environment of the lakes, addressing pollution issues, upgrading the landscape, and restoring these valuable green spaces in the heart of the city with its high urbanization rate.
Selected images from the exhibition:

Above photo: Phu Loc River was a black river (before 2009) receiving wastewater from 5 canals from residential areas and companies. The dumping of garbage and construction debris caused siltation at the river mouth, further exacerbating pollution; it has now been cleared, eliminating the pollution hotspot.

Above photo: Direct wastewater discharge and inadequate wastewater treatment plants during the period 2009-2015 poisoned the river. After more than 10 years of investment and renovation, the river and aquatic life have revived, and fishermen have returned to their fishing activities.

In 2007, the World Bank funded $218 million for priority infrastructure investment projects, including the comprehensive environmental remediation project for the Phu Loc River, costing 110.2 billion VND and $301,500 from ODA and domestic counterpart funds (pictured above). Subsequently, the construction of breakwaters to prevent siltation cleared the river mouth leading to Da Nang Bay.

Today, the Phu Loc River is not only a clean and beautiful environment but also holds cultural and traditional significance, preserving a place where community activities such as the basket boat races of Thanh Khe fishermen take place.

Clearing the Phu Loc River also restores a waterway for fishermen to access the sea; the photo shows a fleet of fishing vessels docking at the Phu Loc section of Da Nang Bay.

Along the Phu Loc River (Yen Khe 1 Street), there is a youth project by the Da Nang City Youth Union: a nearly 300-meter-long mural street with the theme "Childhood Memories," aimed at creating a clean and beautiful landscape. A team of young volunteers is stationed here to protect the environment of the Phu Loc River.

Besides the Phu Loc River, lakes in the city center are also undergoing environmental remediation, such as Bau Trang Lake near the Hue intersection overpass.

The area that exists today, Ho Thac Gian – Vinh Trung, was formerly a large and polluted body of water. This area, along with the north-south axis (Ham Nghi – Le Dinh Ly road) and east-west axis (Nguyen Van Linh road), was the first project in Da Nang City to utilize land for infrastructure investment. This project has completely transformed the appearance of the area.

The lake in 29.3 Park, after being reborn from a garbage dump after 1975, is now the largest "green lung" in the city center, providing a place for people to relax, have fun, and exercise.
