Nestled peacefully on the coastal hills of Sa Huynh, Quang Ngai province, Go Co is a unique coastal village. This small piece of land holds a massive layer of cultural sediment: from Sa Huynh 2,500 - 3,000 years ago, through the glorious Champa, to the lives of Dai Viet residents.
Old vestiges quietly blend into daily life: green windows, colorful bougainvillea trellis, flower-studded fences, homestay signs made from seashells or rows of cacti in front of the alley.
The establishment of Go Co Tourism Cooperative opened a new direction for the people. Fishermen who are familiar with fishing, farmers who are attached to rice fields and salt fields have now become homestay owners, tour guides or Bai Choi artists serving tourists. Visitors to the village do not find restaurants, because meals are cooked and shared in each family.
The people of Go Co still maintain a lifestyle connected to nature: together they re-thatch the roof, rebuild the earthen walls, tend the green tea rows, and cultivate the red flowers in front of the gate. On the edge of the sea, they gather to wait for the basket boats to return. Their life seems to be separate from the noise outside. Amidst the chirping of insects, the salty smell of the sea breeze and the murmuring of the waves, Go Co brings a rare sense of peace.
Tourists come here not only to visit but also to “heal” – to temporarily leave the hustle and bustle of the city and find peace in the familiar embrace of the countryside.
Currently, Go Co has become a green tourist destination, welcoming many domestic and foreign tourists every day. Notably, Go Co is currently one of six villages representing Vietnam to participate in the 5th “Best Tourist Village” award of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) in 2025.
