Venice, Italy , limits group sizes to no more than 25 people, prohibits the use of loudspeakers, and forbids tourists from stopping on narrow streets or bridges.
The city of Venice has announced new regulations, effective from June 2024, aimed at further restricting tourism in the already overcrowded city. The new regulations will apply to the city center and the islands of Murano, Burano, and Torcello.
"Groups of visitors must not exceed 25 people, equivalent to half the capacity of a tour bus. The use of loudspeakers, which could cause disruption, is also prohibited," the statement said. This regulation will have to be submitted to the City Council for approval before implementation. Tourist groups are also not allowed to stop on narrow streets, bridges, or walkways. The Venice Museum has limited the number of visitors entering at any one time to under 25.

Simone Venturini, a member of the city's Tourism Council, said the move is part of a broader intervention aimed at improving tourism management in Venice, creating a better balance between the needs of residents and tourists.
City Security Council Commissioner Elisabetta Pesce said this was "an important measure to improve the management of tourist groups" as well as "promote sustainable tourism and ensure the safety and protection of the city".
The new regulations will take effect two months after the introduction of a trial tourist fee of 5 euros. This fee applies to visitors who come to the city for the day and do not stay overnight.

Previously, UNESCO warned that Venice might be added to the list of endangered heritage sites and urged the Italian government to "ensure maximum commitment" to addressing long-standing problems in the city such as tourist overcrowding and climate change-induced flooding.
Venice is a famous destination in Italy and is known by many nicknames such as the City of Canals, the Floating City, Queen of the Adriatic Sea, and the City of Bridges. Venice is the capital of the Veneto region and the province of Venice. Besides its famous canals, Venice attracts tourists with its hundreds of Renaissance churches, bell towers, and palaces. Before the pandemic, the city welcomed over 25 million tourists annually and was always overcrowded.
