According to Bloomberg , Samsung has just reached an agreement with Perplexity, paving the way for pre-installing the application and turning this AI chatbot into the default virtual assistant on the Galaxy smartphone line, starting with the Galaxy S26.
Along with that, Perplexity's AI-powered search technology is being incorporated into Samsung's Internet browser. The Bixby voice assistant can also integrate AI from partners.
'Dark horse' Perplexity AI
Launched in 2022, Perplexity is a fast-growing AI search and assistant platform that competes directly with more well-known names such as Google Search and Microsoft Copilot. Perplexity AI has applications on both Android and iOS.
Notably, not only does Perplexity provide a simple Q&A format, it also performs complex queries, answers follow-up questions, and cites sources directly in the answer, a feature that demonstrates content transparency, helping Perplexity stand out from the competition.

Perplexity is increasingly gaining popularity as an alternative to traditional search engines and creative assistants, thanks to its high level of accuracy and focus on real-time data.
Samsung's Intention
If the deal goes through, Samsung could pre-install Perplexity apps and virtual assistants on Galaxy phones, integrate search into Samsung Internet, and embed some of the technology directly into Bixby.
According to Bloomberg , Samsung wants to make Perplexity the "default assistant option" on the Galaxy S26 series. It is unclear whether Perplexity's virtual assistant will completely replace or just supplement Bixby and Google Assistant.
This isn't the first time Samsung has opted for a solution from Google's rivals. In 2023, Samsung reportedly considered switching the default search engine on its devices from Google to Bing, sending Google into "panic mode."

Now, with Perplexity, it seems Samsung is continuing its strategy of exploring AI solutions as alternatives to Google's offerings.
This doesn’t say anything about the “billion-dollar” partnership between Samsung – the world’s largest Android smartphone maker – and Google, the tech giant behind the Android ecosystem. However, this is a sign that Samsung is ready to change.
Fierce competition
Samsung isn’t the first smartphone maker to plan to install Perplexity on its devices from the factory. Motorola previously launched the Razr line, which supports four virtual assistants: Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Moto AI, and Perplexity.

Samsung has taken a more hands-off approach to the software experience so far. If Perplexity is to become a core part of One UI, the company needs to clearly communicate what makes it different and why it’s on a Galaxy phone.
Samsung's move comes as the AI market heats up. To gain a competitive edge, developers are constantly adding new features to their systems.
Google is working on a range of powerful generative features, including smarter search results, AI-generated images and interactive tools for learning and programming. These efforts are believed to be partly motivated by the threat of Samsung seeking solutions from rivals.
As for Samsung, it's unclear whether or not it will ultimately move forward with Perplexity and how deeply it will integrate the technology, but this could mark a major turning point in how AI works on Galaxy devices.
