Coach Philippe Troussier and his team increased their chances of winning tickets to the 2024 AFC U-23 Championship finals when VFF hosted the qualifying round at home.
Along with Vietnam, other countries also hosting the 2024 AFC U23 qualifiers announced by AFC are China, South Korea, Bahrain, Thailand, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
In the 2024 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers, the Vietnam U23 team is placed in Group 1 along with Australia, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Turkmenistan, Jordan and Thailand. It is expected that on May 25, the AFC will conduct the draw for the 2024 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers.
The 2024 AFC U23 Championship finals will take place from April 15 to May 3, 2024 in Qatar, with the participation of 16 teams, including 11 group winners and 5 second-placed teams with the best results in the qualifying round, according to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). The qualifying matches for the 2024 AFC U23 Championship are scheduled to take place from September 4 to September 12.

Historically, the Vietnam U.23 team has qualified for the final round of the U.23 Asian Cup for the past 4 consecutive years, with the highest achievement being the runner-up position in 2018.
The 2024 AFC U-23 Championship Finals will also determine the top three teams to qualify for the AFC’s main ticket to the Paris Olympics from July 24 to August 10, 2024. The fourth-placed team will play a play-off match with the African representative to compete for a wildcard ticket.
