Arriving at Dong Hoi market at 8am on June 3, we noticed that many kiosks were still closed and the atmosphere of buying and selling was quiet. Some traders still came to the market but did not open their kiosks to sell goods, but only gathered to listen for information.
Through actual investigation, it is known that the reason why small traders closed their kiosks and temporarily stopped selling was due to the information spreading that on this occasion, the departments, branches and functional forces of the province will deploy a large-scale inspection and examination to strictly handle violations in business, such as: Trading in goods of unknown origin; goods without invoices or documents; counterfeit goods, goods violating intellectual property rights... This information spread quickly among small traders, especially those who do business in fashion , cosmetics and consumer goods, areas that are often "closely scrutinized" during inspections.
Mr. Vo Quoc Thinh, Head of Dong Hoi Market Management Board, said: "Business closures are not only happening at Dong Hoi market but also at other markets in the city. Faced with this situation, we have stepped up propaganda and mobilization work for traders, so this morning, June 3, some kiosks have reopened for business. We also remind traders to comply with the law related to preventing and combating smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, and not to worry too much if their business activities are in accordance with the law."

Faced with the increasingly widespread situation of counterfeit and unknown origin goods in the market nationwide, the Provincial Steering Committee 389 has recently established interdisciplinary inspection teams and launched a peak campaign to combat and prevent smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights in the province. Through inspections, the authorities have detected and handled a number of violations; at the same time, reminded and guided businesses and business households to operate in accordance with the State's laws.
In reality, counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin and commercial fraud are worrying issues not only in Quang Binh but also nationwide. Strengthening inspection and examination is extremely necessary to protect consumer rights, create a fair competitive environment and enhance the reputation of traditional markets. However, instead of choosing to close down and "avoid", traders should proactively review the items they are trading, carefully check invoices, origins, labels and in the long term, need to raise awareness in choosing quality products for trading, always complying with legal regulations.
Markets are the livelihood of thousands of households, an indispensable cultural feature in urban life. However, for markets to exist and develop sustainably, there needs to be cooperation between management agencies and traders in building a healthy, transparent and law-abiding business environment. Closing kiosks is not a long-term solution. Raising awareness of proper and legal business practices will not only help traders stabilize their operations but also create trust from customers, the most important thing in business today.
