Ms. Marie Keller, Chargé d'affaires ad interim of the French Embassy in Vietnam, stated that this stop by the French Navy ship is part of France's Indo- Pacific strategy. The Indo-Pacific is a particularly important commercial shipping region. More than 50% of global maritime traffic passes through this area, and we share a common interest in protecting the region's shipping lanes.
France's strategy aims to maintain peace and security through respect for international law, particularly respect for international maritime law, the core of which is the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Lieutenant Commander Wallerand Faivre d'Arcier, the cruiser's commander, stated that this is not only a stopover point for sailors but also a symbol of cooperation and friendship between the two nations.
The Prairial is the flagship of the French Pacific Fleet, based in French Polynesia, with a crew of 93. The ship was built in 1993.
During the visit, the group of officers and ship commanders paid courtesy calls to the leaders of the Da Nang City People's Committee, Military Region 5, and Naval Region 3. At the same time, the officers and sailors exchanged professional knowledge, participated in sports activities with officers and personnel of the Vietnam Navy and Coast Guard, and visited local cultural sites.
